More for the few who don't actually believe Camaro is going to happen at this point:

A fall announcement of Chevy's intentions to restore the Corvette's rear-drive companions is forthcoming, says general manager Ed Peper. Chevrolet dealers have been urging the division to bring back a competitive sports coupe for the sold-out 2005-model Ford Mustang and the coming Pontiac Solstice. Jim Campbell, Chevrolet car marketing manager, told Automotive News (June 27) that without a Mustang-battling rear-wheel drive coupe, "I wake up every day knowing that I am spotting Ford 150,000 to 200,000 units a year."

In the Corvette arena, Chevrolet also confirmed that on June 15 it sent its dealers allocation letters for the Z06 edition coming this fall. The Z06 will carry a 7.0-liter, 505-horsepower V-8 engine and price from $65,800. Only 4,000 to 5,000 Z06 models will be built in its first full year, and allocations will be authorized only for medium or high-volume Corvette dealers. The Z06 will zip from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 second, according to Campbell.

Lacking a Caprice, Chevrolet has no competitor for Chrysler's 300 or Ford's Crown Victoria, either, in the rear-drive personal-sedan or police markets, respectively. - Mac Gordon

It's not that I don't think it's gonna happen (I know one the the reliable insiders here), it's a matter of when (studying, zeta cancelation, what was on what chassis, etc). and what it'll look like (retro cheerleaders vs. non-retro cheerleaders).

It's been 5 years of mouring for the car's demise (yeah, I knew about it before 2002)...it's like your emotion being pulled in every direction.

RWD 2+2 coupe = Camaro
RWD Charger-like sedan = Chevelle

build them asap after the 900's are done.

Read that again folks. Then ponder the words. A fall announcement on the return of rear wheel drive Corvette companions.

To the doubters (BigBlueCruiser and others)....the defense rests.

NAIAS in January is gonna be some kinda show.

Anyone else get the feeling that Ed Peper really wants to say something?

These are the days I hope for...

One day I'm going to open this page and I'm going to see an OFFICIAL announcement from a GM BigWig like Lutz saying the Camaro is being reborn and all will be right with the world again.

I don't doubt that GM will show something soon. What worries me, is how long everyone gets to wait afterward............ for the vehicle to actually reach showroom floors.

GM does not have a very good history of being "quick" in the development of new vehicles. I hope that they can prove me wrong this time.

Another 2-3 years after the vehicle is shown at a show, would just be WAY too long.

Fall announcement, I like the sound of that. Surely that means we can buy this thing sometime in 2007.

Fall announcement! That must mean they are expecting to complete phase I of the RWD coupe feasibility study and begin phase II (thinking about it really hard).

Just because they are ready to announce the return of Car 'X' in the fall doesn't mean they haven't been working on Car 'X' for quite some time now...

Re: I wake up every day knowing that I am spotting Ford 150,000 to 200,000 units a year.

Don't get me wrong here, I am really happy to hear that a new Camaro seems to be coming soon, and I appreciate the work done by the people at GM who believe in Camaro. However, all of this recent 'good news' is causing me to feel alot of anger towards GM too. None of this had to happen. We didn't have to be without our car for this long period of time, Ford should never have been given this opportunity to stick it in our faces, GM should never have stupidly decided that nobody wants cars like this.
Also, I have this uncomfortable feeling that the Camaro may be too much of a reaction to the mustang, and will therefore continue in its perceived image of being the also ran. DO THIS RIGHT GM, DON'T GIVE US A CAR THATS KINDA ALMOST AS GOOD AS THE MUSTANG, PRETENDING TO BE A CAMARO VERSION OF THE POPULAR RETRO MUSTANG, EXCEPT FOR BEING 3 YEARS AFTER THE FACT. TAKE THE FREAKING LEAD INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET THE PRICE RIGHT. If you don't do all of the above, you will fail.

GM isn't going to put a big dent in mustang sales and thats because only mustang people are buying mustangs. GM isn't spotting Ford anything. the 200k market was there already.
