I think that a pony car is coming from Chrysler...

Right now...it's a sure bet that a shortened, two door, LX car, is being worked on by Chrysler. It's a better than even bet, that this car will be approved.....soon

The 2 door LX will NOT be called Charger. The Challenger name has been making the rounds.
But ......there is a report (can't vouch for the source)...that a shortened, two door coupe, prototype has been spotted at Brampton.
The source described it as having 2 bucket seats in front...and a small backseat "like the Mustang". It also is rumored to have a 6.1 Hemi....and a "nameplate" ( don't know if they mean emblem). The "nameplate" says 'Cuda.

We'll know more at Detroit next year. In addition to the production Charger, DCX is rumored to be preparing a 2 door coupe LX-car based concept.

Sounds good to me. The more competition for the Camaro the better. Competition = continuous improvement.

If that 6.1L HEMI is true, Mustang AND Camaro are gonna have their hands full!

That would be awesome for competition...but I personally won't be getting too excited because the price will undoubtebly be in the mid 30s. Hope its nor the case.

Man, I really hope a decently optioned Camaro will come in under 30 after tax and everything. A Mustang really does look appealing when you factor in price...

Who knows.

Right now Dodge Challenger is the front runner. But afew people still think that 'Cuda could be the car that marks the return of Plymouth.

Maybe mid 30's for a 6.1 Hemi SRT-8 version.

Under 30 for a 5.7 Hemi....low-mid 20's for a V6.

The hallmark of these LX cars has been lots of bang for your buck.

Re: I think that a pony car is coming from Chrysler...

Early last year when I researched last August's PHR story, it was made pretty clear that Chrysler was working on a performance coupe. The big issues were making a case for it and getting it signed off by upper management, which at the time was very very demanding. It was explained to me as a hypothetical scenario to a question I asked, but it was very clear it wasn't.

This car was going to cost more than the traditional price range of Camaros & Mustangs because the volume would be relatively low because of the small size of the coupe market. As a result, this car would have to have something about it to really grab attention, and it would have to be over-the-top performance. This car would be something that would pull those guys who would have bought top Camaros & Firebirds and would in theroy be the quickest Chrysler product short of the Viper.

When I 1st heard of of the Charger 4 door "coupe" early this year, I figured that Chrysler followed the same mentality they did with the Charger concept of 1999 (started off as a coupe, then changed to a sedan) because Chrysler needed to sell more cars than the coupe market would support. Now, I know that's not the case.

The Charger did not come out with the 300 only because Chrysler wanted to make sure the Charger & 300 were seen as 2 completely different cars. Also, the Hemi-8 concept (which was the initial "idea" for Intrepid's replacement) wasn't recieved as well as expected.

Since the Charger 4 door "coupe" now obviously isn't the "coupe" that was hinted at early last year, and the fact Chrysler is creating a convertible based on a shortened LX chassis for year after next, it's now looking pretty certain that there will be a Chrysler performance coupe on the streets either before or at the same time as GM's.

It's almost starting to look like a race between Chrysler and GM to see who get's a performance coupe to the showroom 1st.

Oh, BTW....

I don't believe the SWB "Coupe" and "Convertible" will be built at Brampton.

Re: I think that a pony car is coming from Chrysler...

The Dodge coupe and the 300 coupe are suppose to be related(like the Camaro and Firebird). Neither coupe is expected before the end of 06. While there is no solid name for the Dodge coupe consider this, Don Summacher has already made it clear that the Dodge Charger will be used in FC and in PS. I have been told that to have a body in PS, that it has to be a coupe. I don't know if this is a rule, but if Chrysler has promised the NHRA that there is a coupe coming that would make sense. Also, since the coupe would have to grab attention and get the highend Camaro and Firebird guys to come over, what would bring them over more then a Dodge Charger Daytona?

I don't think they are suppose to show anything until the end of next year.
