I like what this guy has to say.
I'm not a big fan of him (btw, he and his wife are both automotive "journalists" at the same paper). Anyway, his proposal for Opel --> Saturn sounds familiar...GTO? Then half the people whine because it is just a rebadged such and such. Know what I mean? But anyway... I've actually driven (in Milford) a right hand drive turbodiesel Opel Signum, and it is quite a nice vehicle. Epsilon = good. I think you'll see future GM products taking the interior appearance much more seriously ("perceived" quality, as Lutz likes to call it, is much different than actual quality). The new Malibu, while conservative, shows excellent fit and finish and nice material selection. I've seen some of our other upcoming interiors, and they look pretty dang good.
Of course, I don't think all of GM's older interiors were bad. Oldsmobiles had pretty decent textures and color matching; about all they didn't have was flush fitting HVACs and radios, which for some reason the media seems to think is the difference between good and mediocre fit and finish...
Yeah, I know what you mean about Lienert. I like his automotive commentary....I just hate it when he tries to inject some subliminal political message.
Getting back to the Signum turbodiesel....does anyone think it's time for GM to have a T-diesel in N/A? Maybe even in a Saturn.
How's VW doing with it's TDI....I understand it's something of a torque monster.
