That's too bad. A 315 hp V8 would have really spiced up the 500/Montego/MKS.

They will get almost that much out of the 3.5L with direct injection, and not have to worry about supply problems for the V8, or having to build a new plant to build it.

I'm sure that money was the main factor.

Isn't the Duratec 3.5 already Direct Injected?

Not yet. It's DI capable, just like GM's HFV6.

I don't see the addition of direct injection to the 3.5 Duratec bringing another 50hp home. Besides, I thought it was common belief on here that v8s sell, regardless of hp. The wussy detuned Northstar GM uses in the Lucerne sells. Don't see why this one wouldn't have either.

Re: I Give Up (Ford)

DI 3.5L is the only thing that can save this bone headed decision. The Lincoln MKS needs a 300HP+ engine. 4.4L Volvo V8 would have been a good choice, but a 300HP V6 will do.

Re: I Give Up (Ford)

I recall a survey floating around asking people what they wanted in the MKS. A turbo V6 was on the list I believe. A turboed DI V6(350ish? horsepower) with AWD would be pretty nice. I was hoping that would be an SVT Fusion though. Eh can continue to hope.

The 3.5L Duratec, in regular tune, is rated at 265hp. I don't see much of a problem with attaining 300hp out of one with direct injection.

Direct injection does add a set amount of hp. It varies depending on setup. Gaining 35hp with just the addition of direct injection is not completely assured.

V8 is back on for at least one of the D3 variants. Maybe they do have a brain in there...

First the decision to end the "Hurricane" engine program is repealed, then the decision to kill the Town Car is over ruled, now the V8 is back in the D3.

Sounds like a pretty intense internal conflict at Ford between the intrenched bozos and Mark Fields.
