Hyundai Genesis - flagship sedan starting under 30k

If the exterior remains largely unchanged (as is rumored to be the case)... especially those badass looking headlamps... and if the interior looks as good as the exterior, and this car starts at under 30k. Wow...

That is going to destroy the competition if it comes in at 30k with the V8 and 6 speed auto....

What a sweet looking ride. Why does it have to be a Hyundai?

Wow! Another Hyundai that looks like everything BUT a Hyundai. Doesnt anyone else see alot of Camry in this?..and the rear end is screaming design cues from several other manufacturers.

Thats why Hyundai isnt taken seriously..they have no defining style, there is no "Hyundai" look...a Ford looks like a Ford, a Chevy like a Chevy, a Toyota looks like a Toyota.....but Hyundai looks like "Fill in Auto Manuf. here" for whatever style they think they could find success in mimicing and selling for less.

I think thats far from the only reason Hyundai isn't taken seriously. Nissan made its comback with a couple of blatant Lexus design cues and no one seems to care.

At this point in automotive history Im beggining to feel like everything orthodox that can be done, has been. There are examples in pretty much every brand of retro, retro gone wrong, other companies design cues, or just trademarks becoming stale.

In any case, for the market Hyundai is going after I doubt its going to matter. If anything it will get them more market share from people who think "it looks good and is cheap".

Those headlights will look cool in about a year to 18 months when they turn yellow.

Looks pretty much like a boring Camry but with a not so boring engine.

Reminds me of the new Chrysler Nassau concept.

At first glance, it reminds me of an Infiniti M45. And that's a good thing.

I still can't get the Korean cars = crap thing out of my subconscious mind, though...

Meh...I guess it looks just like any other lux sedan: boring.

I have to state though that I'm nowhere near the target market either though.

Hyundai already tried to make a luxury value car, called Grandeur (internationally) or Azera (North America).

Its outside styling is strange, however, I had a chance to sit in one at the autoshow last year (Feb. 2006). The MSRP on the car was somewhere in the 31-33K Canadian.

The interior in this car was quite bad. It had illogically placed buttons, strange centre console design, poor choice of plastic and carpet materials.

The same price will put me into a VW Passat, or Mercedes C-Class for very close, or, heck, even Audi A3. Any of those cars in base trim are worlds better than this Hyundai.

I will withhold my judgment against this serious luxury competitor until I see its interior.
