1. Try to find a contact who can get you in. Someone that knows you and understands what you are capable of.

2. Consider tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers. This may be preferrable, since you may work with more than 1 manufacturer.

3. Consider contract agencies. Automotive companies hire a lot of contract temporary and contract to hire employees.

4. Send out lots of resumes. I've found quantity works better more than quality. Keep cover letters short and focused. Resumes can be generic. When you get an interview, you can then put together a resume specifically for the position, if you want.

Then after that I could take auto engineering for another two years at NJIT or Penn Tech...I really don't know what I am going to do though. I know I'd really love to work with cars for a living but I'm not sure what the best way is to get myself into that. I'm just hoping the current path I'm on right now will allow to get into doing R&D on high performance cars...So yeah, if anyone has any advice that they would like to share, I'd like to hear it as well I've known for a long time that I'd probably wind up doing something that involved cars but now I just need to know how to get my foot in the door...
I actually go to NJIT and they don't offer auto engineering here. If they did I'd have taken it. I was actually taking mechanical engineering for my first two and a half semesters and decided it wasn't for me and switched to a double major in applied mathematics and engineering science. Obviously I'd love to be in the auto industry for a domestic company (GM or Ford), but since switching my major I don't think that my opportunities are as good as if I was a mechanical engineer. Anyone think that applied mathematics would be useful in the auto industry and if so what field.
