How come heads up displays are not in more cars?
How come heads up displays are not in more cars?
We have a HUD in the Grand Prix...and both me and my fiance use it all the time. It is a great feature that keeps your eyes on the road. Also I like on the GP how it has radio/XM/CD info programmed in, a shift light for the CRAP Shift, and any DIC messages. I hear the C6's can do even more stuff!
Every one who see it goes on about how they have never seen it, and wished it was an option on their car.... I even had Toyota person tell me "I guess GM cars have to have these neat features since their cars are built like crap".
Either way, I just wonder #1, why GM doesn't put it in more cars, and #2 why some brands like Nissan, Toyota, or even BMW have not picked up on it.
I know it is expensive, but I would imagine like everything else, cost would go down with more volume.

GM should put them on:
GTO
Monte Carlo SS
Impala SS
Silverado SS
CTS-V
STS
DTS
And anything else that has any performance image whatsoever.
Best feature to come along in a while... except for seat heaters.
Re: How come heads up displays are not in more cars?
From what I hear, the winsheild is expensive because it has a special coating. I wonder how big the actual unit is and how hard it is to package in a dash. I would assume that since it is in the GP...any W-Car could get it also pretty easy.
Re: How come heads up displays are not in more cars?
One word........Packaging.....gotta have room for it........
well.....two words.....expense.
I DO believe you're going to see it on more and more future products as they are redesigned and I.P. components get smaller....
No doubt about it....in my opinion, once you have it, you never want another car without it.......

The C6 HUD has two modes, differing sizes. Depending on the mode you can display different info to your liking. The "track" mode allows a "g" meter readout which is realtime fed by the lateral accelerometer.
I like having the HUD a bunch.

I had it in my 1999 GP GT and really missed it when I got my Camaro. It wasn't even that expensive IIRC-- maybe $300-400. I agree that it would be a nice option in every new car.
