it's great that Honda pioneered ULEV standards, but somehow I don't think the effect of pollution reduction in honda engines will be significant enough to cause any noticeable changes.

driving a LEV is more a reflection of a person's attitude than real changes such a vehicle will bring to the world of pollution. so let's not talk about polluted water, dying, and lung cancer because a handful of people drive gas guzzler muscle cars. there are other sources to blame for such things, automotive industry is just among the most visible ones.

What is frustrating is that it's not just our cars, it's everything else too. Industry, power plants etc. Our hobby is an easy target though. We have to fight the dumb anti-hot-rodding legislation (like attempts at outright banning of us modifying our cars, e.g. attempts to make aftermarket exhausts illegal) but the issue of emissions and polution and cleaning up that aspect of our hobby is not an option. Sorry, but we have to do it or we will have no hobby left one day. Cutting off cat-converters and dumping emissions equipment on street driven cars for example is just not on. Yeah it's frustrating when you can't have everything your way and some of you will be shaking your head and calling me a tree-hugger for even thinking these thoughts. But to those of you, I have to suggest that perhaps you're being somewhat short sighted of the consequences and dare I say, rather selfish if you don't stop to consider the other folk that we share our planet with. 99% of whom don't care for our hobby. Even if you don't treasure your health and wellbeing, others do.

Some pretty childish remarks above too, from some folk here. Someone always has to say something stupid and inflamatory about PETA. I don't know what that has to do with cars really . But it exemplifies a childish attitude to simply **** people off for the sake of it. I guess it's easier for some folk to do that than to formulate a structured argument. For the record, I agree *some* PETA folk are rather extreme, but I don't their mission statement is that 'eating animals itself is bad' (as someone else above seems to think). PETA are concerned with ethical treatment of animals in general. I.e. preventing abuse, wanton cruelty etc. Animals are part of the food chain, and they're damn tasty to boot but what harm is there is treating them humanely while they're alive and killing them humanely when it's time to eat them?
