Honda Fit starts at $13,850

I'm sure Gran Turismo lovers are familiar with this car. It seems a bit pricey for an entry level competitor, especially with Civic starting at $14,360. For a car that is supposed to regain sales lost to the Koreans and discounted domestics, I was expecting it to be in the $11-12,000 range. And it also appears the 109-hp 1.5 will be the only engine, even in the "sport" and "factory performance" trims.

2007 Honda Fit Sport
Honda has announced pricing for the 2007 Honda Fit, due to hit showrooms on April 20.

The base Fit, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $13,850, is powered by a 109 horsepower, 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder, VTEC engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. Automatic transmission models start at $14,650.

Priced at $15,170, the Fit Sport with manual transmission adds a rear roofline spoiler, aero body kit, fog lights, security system with keyless remote entry, cruise control, a 200-watt, six-speaker audio system and 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Fit Sport models with the available automatic transmission, including standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, start at $15,970.

The Fit can also be customized with Honda Factory Performance equipment, including 16-inch alloy wheels, sport exhaust, chrome exhaust tip finisher, rear bumper accents and a sport mesh grille.

Destination and handling charges for all 2007 Honda vehicles are $550.

The Chevy Aveo starts at under $10k.

Seems a little high unless they pack it with a bunch of equipment, wanted or not.

Sounds more like "Flabby" than "Fit."

The new Aveo for '07 is better looking imo.

I got my '05 LT Sedan w/sunroof, ABS & automatic for just over $13,000. (Power everything is standard.)

Besides, who wants to say "I drive a Fit!' That's gotta be one of the worst names I've heard for a car. At least 'Aveo' SOUNDS interesting. lol

At those hp ratings I don't call it HorsePower.

My 103hp Aveo is 100% HamsterPower. Man, I can't wait 'til I can get a new car. heh

Not sure if this is gonna even shake the market up...
Only a 109 hp engine? Even if it's lightweight, that's pretty bad considering that that is the performance version as well.
I'd just get a cheap Aveo and call it a day, if I was in the market. It seems like this market would be more dependent on price, whereas a more upmarket class would be able to accept such a high price over competitors.

Or, friends, "You have a Fit?"

Or, car club, "Hey, you guys have Fits?"

Yeah, definitely a dumb name.

Sorry. The words "1.5-liter" and "Factory Performance" don't go together

Yeah, definitely too high of a starting price if they're trying to compete with the Aveo and other Korean-made super econo boxes.

This seems to be more aimed at Scion's xA and xB, IMO. Neither of which I'd ever consider buying.

Fit has a much different meaning in the UK, for what it's worth. If a girl is good looking/attractive, you'd say to another guy "wow, she's really fit" (even if you don't mean in a "in shape" sort of way).

I'd just spend the extra 500 and get the Civic. It's less homo.

Actually that's a lie. I'd buy another LS1 car and mod it.

Yep, join the Fit Club. God help someone heavyset who buys one. That might not be the "tight" fit everyone else in the club is bragging about.

Why is it so tall? IMO that would seriously comprimise highway stability.
