No offense to GP owners and admirers.
I've been waiting for a this car for a long time.
Somehow, I don't think I'll be able to wait for the Camaro.
The Dodge Charger, leftover Lincoln LS, and model run-out CTS are suddenly a lot easier to pass up.

Let me start this by saying that I am a fan of GM's RWD mid/large size car heritage. I have, in the past and would now choose a RWD car over a comparable FWD car - if the General were offering both to the market.
It's not so much that I have a problem with the current GP or any of its incarnations since 88 - I liked them all to varying degrees. By 1988 (say what you want) the G-body was ready for the pasture, having been starved of any infusion of new cash/progress and left for dead by a GM intent on abandoning RWD for the packaging benefits of FWD since the 81 restyling - GN/X and SS variants notwithstanding. These cars (as well as the B-bodies) were supposed to have been long gone by 88. The GP, in my opinion, was the least sporty of the G-bodies at the time - The "hot car" GP 2+2 was just a (not a very well) warmed over SS Aerocoupe that was just awkward looking in comparison to the MC - IMHO.
Besides, I don't think that anyone can argue that the W-body GTP/CompG/GXP variants aren't pretty capable peformance models - they run circles around and are more refined then their G-body predecessors (I think I can say that with confidence having owned and driven both RWD and FWD versions) - they just should have been RWD all along - IMHO.
Now we are on the verge of having what's been missing from the GM product mix - stylish, modern mid/large-size cars that are V8 powered and RWD (something GM used to be the master of). Only this time around the four door cars are every bit as cool as the coupes (used to be).
Totally agreed.........

"The SS Commodore will be called the Pontiac G8, and will be priced in the mid-$25,000 range."
"The volume range is 30,000 to 50,000. It depends a little bit on how we price it."

Everybody wants to be the next LS1tech these days. Automotive forums are hot business right now, just go and try to register any domain name for an upcoming vehicle and you'll see all the good ones are taken.
I took a fair share of them myself, LOL.
