Holy Crap: The Matrix and GM product placement
Holy Crap: The Matrix and GM product placement
THe new movie is LOADED with GM products. During the big chase scene..basically every car on the highway is a GM product.
Principle vehicles are a CTS, Escalade EXT, and a '67 Firebird (which is the only obvious non-late model). Everything else is new stuff...I saw Aleros, Transport Montanas, Grand Ams, etc. etc. etc.
What I find anti climactic is when the movie was said to be in the making like 2 yrs ago, the CTS was not out yet and there was a lot of anticipation surrounding it and its apperance in this movie. The movie took so long to come out that the CTS is nearly old-hat now.
Would have been nice to see something new or yet to be released...like a GTO.

The movie was originally going to be released May 2002. I notice a lot of Tahoes in the movie, and every cop car was either a Caprice or Impala.
What I couldn't believe was The amount of Oldsmobiles
Two of the biggest car wreck scenes involved an Aurora and Intrigue

I thought that they planned to have the first Matrix in 1999 (which happened), the second one in 2001 and the third one in 2003. They were all supposed to be 2 years apart.
They screwed up with the second one, and this is why this year, in 2003, they will release both the second and the third.
The third Matrix will be released at the end of summer/beginning of fall, if what I read is true.

You read correctly. It's supposed to be released in November of this year as a matter of fact.
I'm curious how many "new" cars were in it (haven't seen it yet, waiting for Imax version to come out in June, praying they show it in Chattanooga....). I'm asking because I was watching a making of 'Matrix Reloaded' type thing. They had a LOT of extras in that movie. They mentioned that they let the extra's drive on the freeway they built while the movie was being filmed. If any cars were wrecked or anything like that in real life, I'm sure stunt people did that part but they did let the extras drive to give it the appearance of a crowded interstate. What I'm finding interesing is that if they (the extras) wanted to be in that scene and participate, they had to bring their own cars. I'm sure GM had a "plug" vehicle in there here and there, but are you saying there were ONLY GM cars in that scene, period?! Doesn't say much about the other automobile makers when all the extras bring their own cars and they turn out to be GM. I suppose the extras could've brought their cars, but non-GM cars were denied participation. Not sure, as the documentary didn't say either way. Still, I find that interesting....
Did you stick around and watch the trailer for the 3rd movie? If not, the trailer is on the Internet somewhere. I'll try and find it.

There were other cars but not many and they didn't stay on Camera for long
THey showed an old Black audi for awhile, an early 90's Accord got its rear smashed by an Escalade, and I remember seeing a early 90's Tuarus too.
