Re: Holden medium Kappa concept called XP54

Holden will show a locally made concept – the XP54 – which has been handbuilt on General Motors' mid-sized global Kappa architecture.
This makes me wonder how long GM has been working on this mid-size kappa. Since it is kappa based, could the Curve and Nomad been the first of the mid-sized platform. Is it possible that GM could have been hiding the mid-size platform in front of us by putting the ecotec in those two concepts (and saying it can only hold an ecotec) when they were really the larger, reengineered kappa? I've never seen a picture of the chassis or engine bay of either the Curve or Nomad to be able to compare it to the published pictures of the solstice chassis. Hmmmm, kinda makes me wonder.

Still no conformation of a V8. All it says is turbo ecotecs and HFV6's.
Will this mean that the Camaro, if built off this chassis, will use these HFV6's?

V8's for any future Camaro...no ifs, ands, or buts.

You don't see any talk of a V8 because the Camaro is Zeta based. No rumors about that. Just rumors about a Kappa Camaro, which is far too late to bring to the table considering the Zeta Camaro has been approved, given $$$ for clay formation, etc.

The Holden Kappa concept did have to be re engineered. I had a chance to drive the Nomad, as well as the Curve. The engines fit in there, with just a little extra room. When I was talking with a guy that has been on the Nomad team since its inception, he said what others inside GM had told me, but was kept quiet. That they were working on a V6 in Kappa, but significant changes were to have been made.

Well there's no confirmation on that obviously, but I too have to believe the next Camaro will be heavily Zeta based. The rumor of a Kappa Camaro kind of came out of the blue a while back and is based on absolutely nothing.

EDIT: By Kappa I mean Solstice-style Kappa. This "mid size" Kappa does seem to have interesting possibilities. The decision on the exact Camaro platform has to have been made a while ago though, and we're just hearing about mid-size Kappa now....it's all pretty maddening....

I can't wait to go down to my local Chevy dealership and buy my fullsize camaro. Zeta can not be made small enough for a pony car, so we are either going to end up with a full-size camaro or non at all. The Torana is supposed to be the first look at the new mid-sized RWD architechture that will also under-pin the Camaro. It was supposed to be zeta but, it was built from a modified Kappa because the zeta wouldn't work. Was the original plan Zeta? Yes. Do plans change? YES.

No rumors about that
Until GM comes out and says something about the Camaro, it is all rumor

Unless you want 09 to be the next Camaro's intro date then you had better bet your money on Zeta. "midsize" Kappa ain't going to be ready by 07. No if ands or buts about it.

Turbocharging an ECOTEC, someone at GM finally woke the hell up. That is a great idea, I'd love to see that landing in the G6 or Cobalt instead of the S/C.

GM Europe where all forced inducted ecotec's are turbocharged gets that . For some reason they keep giving us superchargers Hopefully the rumors hold true and the cobalt SS ends up with a turbo within a couple years .

The Zeta "Chevy Coupe"....which is being co-developed with GTO and Monaro...doesn't yet have a name.

At this point, any sort of Camaro-like styling exercises performed for the Zeta coupe, can easily be transferred to a different platform.

Actually...I think that I may be guilty of starting this one...based on Bob Lutz's Paris comments, and afew other pieces of key info.

Whatever it is, we'll have a better handle on it in 5 days.
