Holden Commadore SS Was Just In My Driveway...
Holden Commadore SS Was Just In My Driveway...
Well, sort of. I got a call from my buddy down the street. One of his friends has another friend that works for a supplier for GM. Obviously won't name names but they have the axle order for the Camaro and a few others that are "close but not quite there yet."
So, I, as any REAL GM enthusiast did, immediately put my salad to the side and bolted out the door to my neighbors house just 3 houses down.
WOW. That really is all I can say after seeing one in person. It looks big from the side, but the front and rear overhangs are nearly non existent. This was a Right Hand Drive model with GM Manufacturer plates. The engineer that was driving it claimed it was the only one currently in North America.
I mentioned the Commadore being basically the Pontiac G8 but he admitted he was not into future vehicles or followed what he hears much due to being in the business for years and years. Understandable. Naturally, I get sick of hearing about future cell phones when I hear of them, being in the business three years and all.
It was black, and an automatic. I didn't expect there to me a manual, especially in RHD, that would be a little odd expecting the engineers to drive a RHD manual.
He says he drove it over in Australia and LOVED it.
To make this story short, I was on the fence about these coming over as the Pontiac G8. After seeing a black one, in the flesh, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this vehicle will out sell the Pontiac GTO as being sourced from Holden.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

Doesn't seem like anyone is intrested in what I wrote about the car ("not a high intrest car in the US", "our guys are already writing about it", etc...) so I'll probally edit it down and post it on multiple sites in a few weeks.
Welcome to the club. At least now I have company!

I think its a bad call that people wouldnt be interested in this I think. A car like this that isnt even here yet seems kinda exotic. Of course not complaining too loudly, their loss our gain!

I tried to compromise a drive out of him. He said he liked the Solstice, so I naturally brought mine up. It was unfortunate I could not trade rides around the block.
It just looks like a big car from the side. Also, the spoiler in my opinion should probably go on the G8. A friend of mine said it first, I looked at the car in a few different angles and I agree, it just doesn't seem to fit. I'm sure it's highly functional in such a car, but it just didn't look "good" in my opinion.
Also, the exhaust was just not loud enough for me. I understand there's always the SS-V but something I've liked about the Mustangs is that it has the exhaust note to match the look of the car, the Commadore was too quiet, even when it was revved.

Well , I hope this car is in Chicago in Pontiac duds so I can see one too . Unlike the GTO , I think Pontiac would not be able to keep them stocked fast enuff if it was priced somewhere in the middle of the Hemi Charger and the 300C .
Bring it !!!

The Commodore is no secret - it's a production car anyway. The fact that GM would have an (or many) examples in the US is not a secret either. If it were restyled and badged as a local brand, then THAT would be a secret worth getting in trouble about ...
If some bone head T-boned them while they were out, the guy driving would probally be in a heap of trouble, and would risk being terminated. I came across a not-yet-in-production car one night when I was still living in Orange County (LA area) & That's the reason the guy gave me.
