Hiya Folks!

Been in Mexico for a while, coming back home relatively soon.

Saw the Camaro pics from the autoshow, and am very impressed.

Nice door strikers, btw...

So which is worse, being stuck in French-speaking Penatanguishene, or being stuck in Spanish-speaking Mexico?

Hmmmm....

The work I was doing in Penatang was awful - basically I was there to kick the owner's *** into doing the right thing, and he was a high-maintenance, arrogant, difficult man to work with.

Penetang itself is beautiful. Nice people too. Basically a clone of a nice Northern Michigan town like Traverse City... with fewer guns.

In Mexico, it has been the reverse. The people I am working with are very nice, the town is an unmitigated sh*thole. I have occasionally been staying in South Padre Island when time/distance allows though, and that is very nice.

So is it French-speaking like Quebec city or French-speaking like Ottawa? I.e. if you come from the U.S. and can't say much more than "je ne parl pas francais", how many people will be able to talk to you?

There's quite a few pockets of French communities throughout Ontario and Manitoba, and they tend to not be nearly as rabid as the Quebekers. They don't want to totally isolate themselves and are therefore are more often bilingual and accepting of Anglophones.

P-T is pretty much 100% English speaking, apart from the occasional curse word.

It was odd taking the tour of the old pioneer military base there as an American, knowing the place was built to fortify the area against an invasion by... Americans. I'm glad that we can all be the best of friends now though.

Canada and The United States...

Two great nations separated by... erm... well... hmmmm... not really all that much when you think about it.

At least you weren't wondering the beaches saying, "deme un botella" like my father was on his last trip to Mexico.
