hemmings muscle machines
hemmings muscle machines
I just got my jan 2006 issue of hemmings muscle machine magazine. On page 53 it has an article title "the camaro is coming." in this article the author states that he received a picture of a clay model of what appeared to be the 5th gen camaro. he also said that they cant show the picture becuase a GM public relations guy contacted them. he says:
after that a GM security guy calls him early in the morning after he couldnt get anyone to confirm it was indeed a camaro. the conversation goes like this:
"good morning this is so and so from GM security. I got a report that you have some GM-owned photos of the 2006 camaro."
he goes
"Aha so it IS the 2006 camaro"
and a long silence followed.
well what do you guys think? if its true looks like we'll be seeing retro. Ive tried to dig up the picture but I guess Im not good at looking.
...remains faithful to the original camaro ponycar concept. A squarish roof, muscular haunches, a Coke-bottle kick ahead of the rear wheels formed by the shape of the rear-quarter window and rocker-panel shaping and cowl hood. The engine is in front, the drive wheels are in back. There are vintage cues all over it. but at the same time, the overall shape is modern-simultaneously curvaceous and angular. The grille most resembles a '69.- blacked out, egg crate shaped, dual headlamps inset, a slight V to the grille itself. The rear quarters flare out gently over the swollen rear rubber and are graced by a single, slender vertical faux-vent.
The front view is the hot one. The rear has a gigantic bumper that is still huge even with the visual thinning of a black panel between the tail lamps. The four separate tail lamps are more corvette than early camaro, though apparently little rectangular lights surrounded in chrome were considered earlier on. The wheels seem more at home on an escalade than a muscle car, but the rest of it is right on the money. It nods to the past without wallowing in it. It is everything I wish the mustang was, visually, and is not ...
features a multilink front suspension, a fully independant rear, beefy subframe rails that go far back in the floorpan and, possibly for the camaro only, an exhaust that crosses over itself.

Re: hemmings muscle machines
he said it was in GM's typical design studio turntable and had "confidential" on the front of it. both of those pictures dont look much like is explained. by 2006 I believe he meant 2006 concept.

Re: hemmings muscle machines
Well, his information does at least coincide with the info will already are aware of from this board. IRS, a strut setup of some kind up front(multilink is a great thing to hear, I hope is true).
The second picture in number77's post is a concept for a Lincoln. The first picture looks like some 4th grader made a Firebird out of clay, and gave it exposed headlights.
