Hemi Dakota?

Is there any chance of a 6.1 L hemi or even the 5.7 hemi in the new Dakota's. There were some rumors a while back. I was wondering if anything new has leaked?

There no fundimental reason why the Dakota can't accomodate the HEMI - other than marketing. The Dakota shares its platform with the Durango, but the HEMI hasn't made it to the Dakota because DCX is afraid the smaller truck will bite into Ram sales. The same fear triggered an expensive pre-launch redesign, making the Dakota a slightly smaller truck than originally intended.

On the other hand, GM never planned on give V8 power to the undersized and underwhelming Canyon/Colorado. Isuzu apparently designed these trucks primarily with Isuzu's own third world markets in mind. It turns out that you can cram a V8 into the Canyon/Colorado, but the same thing was true of the old S-10.

I was thinking more sport truck with this question. Will DCX do a SRT-8 Dakota? I opretty sure you wont see a regular production hemi dak. I was curious as to the rumors of the SRT8 Dak.

No. They just don't have the volume sales for that type of investment.

Besides, they just made what was to be my next truck incredibly fugly and no one would buy it.

Some of the Mopar/Dodge boards keep saying that its gonna happen. But these sites are like this one minus the fifth gen forum. They are for car nuts, so its just wishful thinking.

Re: Hemi Dakota?

I am sure it will endup in a QC somehow, but I am sure that there will be a SRT-8 Dakota as it seems that there has been a SRT version for just about every Dodge vehical. BTW, some of the Mopar boards a full of wishers, but Allpar is where the guys who "know" are at.

Probably will happen. Dodge/Chrysler is so HEMI-happy right now, it wouldn't suprise me if we started seeing Hemi's in the Grand Caravan or PT Cruiser. Seriously though, I'm getting tired of all this "HEMI" craze. It was fresh and cool at first, but now it's just annoying.

I would buy a PT if it had a V8 in it. Didn't matter if it was the 4.7 or the HEMI.

Amen. You can bet if Dakota sales slump or are not hitting projections, the HEMI will find its way into yet another Chrysler product. Do you blame them? I too get the feeling if DCX marketed a HEMI Soap Box racer it'd be "cool". It's the most brilliant piece of no-brainer marketing in recent automotive history, really.

A s/c v6 would be fine for that car, I would think. Same principle, they won't overdo it with a hemi in their sub-full size car. They have a few models with the Hemi in their full size lines.

A Hemi'ed PT Cruiser would be retarded. I can't imagine how weird that would be.

Re: Hemi Dakota?

I remember hearing that the Dakota and Durango weren't engineered with the Hemi V8 in mind. I forgot who that came from, but he was involved with the vehicles.

That said, one can also say the Ford MN12 (former T-Bird & Cougar) & the "W" chassis weren't enginered for a V8s. Yet, a V8 was squeezed in in both cases due to market demand. So take it with a grain of salt.

Yea, right! I guess if GM started putting LS2s in everything it could, that would be annoying too, huh?

Actually I've always said GM needs more variety in its performance offerings. The LS2 Trailblazer SS is great and all, but what ever happened to the turbo 4.2 in development? Think of the potential of a motor like that...I personally find it a much more interesting powerplant!

I think the reason the HEMI has gotten annoying is not the motor itself, but the marketing. Every time it goes in something else I have to hear some clown repeat "Hey that thing got a HEMMAAY? "
