Hello Chicago.

...if Detroit's City council and Oakland county doesn't get together on Cobo, I see the 2011 NAIAS moving to Chicago.

Damnit. Detroit is only an hour away. I won't be able to drive 4 hours to spend a few in the show and drive another 4 back. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO??

Sometimes I wonder how much it would take to wake up the people of Detroit. both the city council and citizens.

While that would suck for Detroit, I think Chicago could put on a great show at McCormick Place.

McCormick is TOO big. Yes, I'm a huge car guy and love autos but every year I've done the Chicago Auto Show I've NEVER been able to see the entire floor. Sure I've had stories to write and blogs to update but even with light media traffic on the floor I can't do it.

It could be because media days in Chicago are only two days but Detroit is also going to two media only days this year too due to pressure from journalists. They want everything crammed in to two days due to $$$$ reasons.

I'm all for the NAIAS moving out of Detroit because the City Council is surrounded with inept "leaders." The biggest is the President Monica Conyers. She's not only racist but will block any deal that hands Cobo's operations over to to regional authority. She's a joke and has to go.

Move it to the Novi Expo Center a few miles north and west of Detroit. It will do just fine there.

I just read the other day that the NY auto show now gets the largest attendance.

I'm not sure, but I've sensed that Detroiters seem to have had an odd sort of pride lately. One that centers on how down-trodden we all are and the sometimes intense negative feelings that much of the rest of the nation harbors against us and the cars we produce.

Wow, what a mess of petty politics and self-serving interests. Meanwhile the sh|t-hole that is Cobo continues to rot. I wonder where all the "Cobo improvement tax" money the Detroit area hotels have to collect has been going?

For what it would cost to "fix" Cobo, they're probably further ahead to start over again at some greenfield site. Somewhere not near the sketchy areas of downtown Detroit. Somewhere easy to get to by car and plane. Somewhere where they can have decent parking facilities.
