Will I get a post card of you behind the wheel of an HSV car?

I'm going to South America on a cruise in late Feb., I'll be gone for 9 days so at least that is 1/3rd of the Month.

Independence day? What's that... we're still subjects of the Queen of England.

A history lesson...

ORIGINS:

On January 26, 1788, a fleet of ships landed at what is now Sydney, Australia. These ships were under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip and had brought a load of prisoners from England. The prisoners on the ships were not all criminals as we would think of them today. Many of them were people who had been arrested because the government didn't like what they had to say. And some were poor people who had been jailed because they owed money.

These prisoners were the first Europeans to settle in Australia.

Before 1783 (when the Americans won the Revolutionary War) many of Britain's unwanted criminals had been sent to the United States.

The desire to get rid of criminals was not the only motivation for colonizing Australia. Botany Bay, Australia made a good port of call for British ships travelling in that part of the world. Also, Australia's raw materials were an attractive reason for colonizing the country.

Btw, there is clear evidence the Dutch explored Australia over a century earlier (shipwreck).

Just so happens I plan to go up that way part of the trip.

Don't have an itenerary or anything, just backpacking, & maybe write a few articles to bring back.

Will certainly be in Sydney, Auckland NZ, & Brisbane (with a jaunt to the Gold Coast and Nimbin.... don't draw any conclusions about the latter ).

The "maybe" parts of the trip, if I can get an OK from Holden I'll fly down to Port Melborne to do an article on the VE chassis if not the car (my way of financing a leg to Victoria & Melborne). Finally I've always wanted to get to Perth but never seem to make it, so that's a big goal this time. I always got stuck in Sydney or Melborne with friends there.

Was planning to leave a few weeks ago, but been bogged down here with a mountain of unexpected stuff, so now I'm looking at week after next.

Experience in South America is limited to Manta, Equador. Small port town, but if you're single..... er....nevermind.

As for the post card, I'll see what I can do.
