GTOs damaged in crash

taken from another site

I have just found out by my friend's dad that works on the railways here that a train carring hundreds of new 2005 GTOs has crashed in Blairsburg, Iowa (just outside of Cedar Rapids). Hundreds of brand new GTOs in transit from California have been damaged or destoryed. As a part of the clean up, some of the GTOs may sold at highly discounted prices, and some are being parted out because of their damage by local citizens helping with cleanup, I will let you guys now of more information. Attached are some pictures of the accident scene. -- I have high resolution pix that I may post else where so you guys can see the extent of the damage.

Its a very sad day for all us GTO lovers

Im sure the railway's insurance company and GM and GM will be all over each and everyone of those GTO's . They will eventually show up in salvage auctions after ALL the insurance red tape has been settled .

Cheap GTO parts anyone??? I wouldn't mind a discounted scooped hood and rear fascia for our '04. Ok I'm getting ahead of myself.

The one thing that worries me is whether this may create local shortages that lead to - you guessed it - market adjustments.

Re: GTOs damaged in crash

you know i cant get a really good picture of what happened but it doesnt look like anything is terribly damaged, if at all...

at my work we export dogfood to japan, and a lot of it too. but we had 1 40 foot container fall over (filled with probably 55-60k lbs of food) and it fell into another conatiner also filled with about 60k lbs of food (we know its overweight) but not a single bag was damged. even when the one container lost its shape and was unuseable while the other one broke its landing gear, there was no material damage...
i wonder how much damaged has happened here?

how would one get their hands on say an ls2 and a 6 speed from one of those cars. meaning where and when would they be auctioned off?
