Because I don't think the GTO should be a reskinned Camaro. If you're going to do that, why not just call it a Firebird? At least, with then you're opening up the car to more volume. IMO, the GTO should be left to compete with the Challenger. Make it a 5 seat 2 door coupe, make the 6.2 standard, maybe also a limited LS7 "Judge". I think that would make it a hit.

The GTO shouldn't have 4 doors, but given that the 4 door Charger is a sales success, I wouldn't be surprised if GM stuck with it's ways and played follow the leader. A 4 door coupe is appealing and is the kind of car that would fit Pontiac perfectly, but why not just think of another name to call it?

Because incorporating heritage GTO design cues and calling it GTO would give it more sizzle.

Darth ....Bigdarkfast ( sorry if i botched the sn , I know I got close )
I have both an 05 GTO and an 04 GTP and voted for the big car. I think they could work doorlet lines into the side of a car the size of the current GTO and it would still be distinct from a corresponding Pontiac sedan. maybe the sedan could have a big trunk and so on. It would be fine with me if the 'doorlet' coupe was called GTO. Oh Blasphemy!

Re: GTO poll.

I voted for the quad coupe. I'm also in the minority that actually likes the new Charger too, but for the GTO I think two rear-hinged doors would be ideal.

Now would those be Tempest, Le Mans, Ventura, or Monaro cues... or a mixture of all of the above?

This is like Doidge and thier 4 door Charger, please enough mockery. Call it something else.

Not crazy about a reskined Camaro, unless it can match the price. If I could get a GTO for the same as a Camaro--as long as it looked completely different, I might. Everyones got a Chevy but Pontiacs are cool

tell them that as they are shipping the hell of them out the door..THIS 4 door charger is a HIT! and an SRT8 Charger is on my list of gotta have Muscle cars..great car!

Because I wouldn't buy either. IMHO, it is not possible to predict success or failure of a certain car based soley upon ones own preferences and biases (though plenty try to do just that).

Sorry Charlie (bet you have never heard that one before), but since neither car would be a consideration, I too will abstain.

Re: GTO poll.

I am also part of the 'Camaro's sister car should be firebird' club. However, I don't want to see the GTO name disappear, if it goes away I doubt they will ever bring it back. We already know (or at least assume) that there will be a GP or GP replacement (G8) on zeta, so why not make this vehicle available as both a sedan and coupe? Then they could have GTO instead of GXP for the coupe. I could see a rwd grand prix coupe with the same spoiler and hood scoop package as the current GTO. Throw in some GTO'ish changes to the front fascia and taillights and drop a big engine inside. The regular sedans and coupes could have a 300hp-350hp v8 as a top model, then the GTO could be like a special edition coupe with a powerful engine (perhaps a northstar or something that could differentiate it enough performance-wise from the Camaro). On a side note, a new GP coupe could replace the Monte if they decide to kill it off.

As for the firebird, I think it could only co-exist with a Camaro if the styling was radically different. For example, I mostly see the 1st and 3rd gen in the new Camaro, why not have a firebird that is more 2nd and 4th gen inspired with a lot more modern influence in the design. A car that is not as retro as the Camaro yet is recognizable as a firebird.

Just my opinion, but I don't make the decisions...

I just drule when I see the cars

Re: GTO poll.

You know, I'm really diggin' the image of a quad coupe GTO more and more......and more.
When I see a hellacious V10 M5 going down the street, or a mean looking black 300C SRT-8....I don't think "darn there goes a 4 door". Nope, I think...." man that car is so unbelievably bada$$!!!"

The GTO could be that kind of car. And....people would buy them.

Re: GTO poll.

Camaro / GTO is just wrong IMO. If they want the GTO to have a Chevy sister, and I don't know why they would they should do a Chevelle or something.

I like the idea of a quad door GTO. And I also think half the people on here talking about how egregious it would be are the same ones who were talking about how the 99" Charger concept was great but the production sucked.

2 useful but well styled suicide doors would make a pretty unique car, and the GTO needs to be a little bit more than a RWD grand prix with a big engine this time.

Re: GTO poll.

Work on the next GTO has never stopped, just like work on the Camaro never stopped.

GM has people working on both and has for years. It gets shuffled around from Holden & the U.S. to keep people on their toes so the entire story does not get out.

When I ran with the 'Zeta Cancelled' story it was because of U.S. sources indicating such because they were no longer working on it...Holden was again.

Re: GTO poll.

I am not sold on the quad coupe being named a GTO. I think GM needs a Charger fighter, but the car that fills this void shouldn't be named GTO. There really is too much emotional baggage to deal with when trying to sell cars with iconic names, and changoing the formula drastically.

As for a Camaro twin named GTO, that is a no win IMHO unless GM could radically change the inside and outside so that people didn't realize they were in a "Camaro" badged as a GTO. The amount of differences I am thinking will be needed would most likely make the car a flop, and rule out any savings they'd get from sharing the Camaro platform.
