GTO Experience AND a job offer

So I went with my friend to check up on her next Bird at the Pontiac dealership of course. Dealer comes out and isn't pushy or anything; just a simple, "Hello, how are you? Anything I can help you with?" We tell him what's going on and he tells us to take our time and wave whenever you find the car you want. What a dream; a salesman that isn't "browsing over your shoulder" with the occasional "low miles, interior, blah blah" BS. So she catches her bird and is off on a test drive. So I'm there with the salesman and he asks how my friend got into F-bodies. A salesman that actually knows about the car? So I tell him all about how I was the Chevy guy and she was my Pontiac counterpart and the speil about how we got hooked with the F-bods. He was real cool and I was like, "Dude! Got a brochure on the GTO?" and he turns and with the biggest smile said, "I've got one on the showroom floor."

So we walk in and this machine is MAGNIFICENT. Black on Black with a red face gauge. Salesman sat me in it and everything, hood was up to show the engine, but I wanted to see what it would look like with the hood down. Before I got the question for him to lower the hood he was at the front lowering it. I'm sittin there like "Wow!" So I get out to get the side view and a rear and the only thing I didn't like was the single exhaust outlet.

So we started talking about the car, and he didn't know it came from The Land Down Under. And some other things, such as the Camaro making it's return around 07. Talked about a few future upcoming vehicles and all that jazz and the guys floored at some of my knowledge. I got a job offer right then and there and am filling out the application when my girl walks in. She's like, "What car are you signing for?" Show her the app and point to the salesman talking to the owner of the dealership about me. So, I sit her in the GTO and she definitely likes it. When she upgrades to a V8 she'll get one. (Which means I get to drive a GTO )

Salesman guy comes to ask about the ride of the Bird and is talking to her, while walking us out to the car. Salesman guy talks a bit about how the car needs some new tires and he'll get some thrown on without marking it up. Guy drives up in a Monte SS with spinners and totally Scopes this WS6(Pewter). Salesman guy talks to him a bit when I heard something about an engine and exhaust setup and my ears perked up. Salesman stepped back and let ME talk to the customer. So I'm talking to this guy about borla and such and the salesman jerks the manager outside. "I" sold a Trans Am WS6 for this salesman and got the $200 of some of the commision the guy will be getting to prove it. So, I'll most likely be getting a side job as a salesman at a Pontiac dealership SOON.

The GTO is Stupendous, It IS NOT Grand Am like in person. For those that have just seen pictures I ENCOURAGE you to see one/sit in one if you can. I wasn't able to test drive it, but if I did the cops would be looking for me for a long while cause I don't think I would have gone back. Sorry for the long thread, but I'm bubbly tonight.

It was an auto, so I'm pretty sure I'd be coughing up quite alot for gas cheese if I test drove it, but wouldn't it be great for a company car?

We're going to be dragging a friend in a few days when she has off to look at it because she CAN'T believe that it doesn't look Grand Ammy. Maybe I should bet some money cause man that car is AWESOME.

I've said it before I saw one and I'll definitely say it now, if the Camaro was NOT in the future I would get the GTO. Maybe the later one that will get the LS2, but I could give a SKITTLE about the "appearance" after seeing this bad boy.

As for it costing a "crap load" it's only around $35k. That's not bad for the interior of this car plus the engine it has. Not to mention it is a sports car. You get:

http://www.pontiac.com/gto/specs.jsp...&Location=HNav

As Standard Equipment(unless deleted by you the customer) on the GTO. The ONLY option is Auto or Manual.

The EXACT price on the GTO I looked at was $33,495 including the $1000 gas guzzler tax, which is only on the automatics, and the $700 destination charge.

They sticker for around $33k FULLY LOADED which isn't too bad. Especially when you consider a fully loaded GTP is right around $29k, and the SS in my sig was almost right at $30k MSRP. Of course, you can probably get a few K knocked off the GTP, but MSRP is still pretty high. I think a fully loaded Bonneville is around $32k as well. Id hardly say it cost a sh*t load.

i think that they're cool cars but they did tone it down from the monaro to much for my tastes. for that kind of coin i'd rather save a few more pennies and get myself a new cobra .

Have you seen one in person 93? They only thing that looked tuned down was the single exhaust outlet on true duals. It just.....didn't fit. I'm pretty sure there will be some aftermarket to fix that though and the GTO is being "restyled" in 05 I believe.

Pictures of this car do it no justice whatsoever.

Ahh yes this is true blackbird, but some of the people that dislike the GTO haven't seen it in person. Yet they bash it because of it's lack of "styling"; how ignorant is that?

If you've seen the car and still dislike it then you've got room to talk, but I seriously wanna get everyone on the boards on a few buses and ship them to this car to look at it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as they've seen the car IRL.

My topic was moved! Sorry for posting it in the wrong place mod.

I felt the same way when I walked into the show room to see the black on black GTO, it wasnt any grand am/GP!

$33,500 is alot of money, but I'll have to see where I am in a year or so, If I can see keeping it for a long time and I dont have any issues with the car then I'll spend the money to get what I want.

I was one of those who liked what I saw in the magazines, then saw it in person and did not like the GTO.

I would take a new Cobra over that car without a doubt.
Glad you liked it though.
