I'm prety sure you could'nt even buy the GTO in Canada, due to the lack of bumpers I believe.

ridiculous. If you spent any time behind the wheel of one, you would not
have said that. I've had the most die hard of Ford enthusiasts in my GTO
and they come back for the keys. Tremendous car in my opinion for
someone who is looking for a car that has Chevy grunt and cadillac comfort
at a decent price.
Re: GTO dead??
The GTO is a Grand Prix! The way they make them is they send some GPs to Australia where the body is taken off and mounted backwards. That is how they make it RWD. It isn't the gas tank that is taking up space in the trunk, it is the motor. The thing they put under the hood is just for looks.

Re: GTO dead??
Okay, so I'll keep that opinion to myself from now on.
But I still think that taking the Holden Monaro from Australia, Re-badging it and calling it a GTO is'nt right. The first GTO's were original, and they were worthy of the GTO name.
No offence intended just my personal opinion.
And on my not driving the GTO. I have'nt driven it, because they don't even sell them in Canada. As stated before I heard it having something to do with only having one shock absorber or something, ultimately not passing Canadian safety standards.
Cheers

Additionally, I think it is some sort of crash standard that makes it unavailable in canada.
Say what you want about the styling. Put a picture of a 60 whatever GTO next to that same year GP and you will see that the modern situation is by no means the blashphemy people make it out to be.
Not only that I would argue that GTO might have been the most attractive coupe in Pontiacs lineup. The stance and proportions are actually befitting of an "excitement" brand. The only thing I hated about it was that tall b-pillar and big roof. Chop about 2 inches off and you would have a killer. If you like Pontiacs typical bland cars there is no reason why you should not like the bland looking GTO with muscle under the hood.

I concur i read either motor trend or c&d and they stated that when the camaro reaches production in either 08 or 09 the GTO will be axed..so i cant see them spending the money to get a new platform just for 1 or 2 years.
Also in the magazine it stated how they want pontiac to be more of a boy racer..division...and chevy would be the bread and butter brand that offered everything from the 60k dollar z06 to a 10k aveo. GM said that the RWD market isnt being enough to have 2 rwd sports cars competing against each other for sales in the same market.
Re: GTO dead??
My GTO is by far the best overall car that I have owned. For those who bash it, I ask that you just take one for a drive and then speak. Styling is subjective, but I constantly get stares and thumbs-up as I'm driving this thing. Fun little ride for sure!

Re: GTO dead??
They are Depo tails, purchased off of Ebay. I wanted the '06 black tails, but they are on national backorder...

Many high up GM execs stated Firebird won't return. You guys really need to accept this fact, and move on.

As to the GTO, I drove an ’04…it was truly an impressive car. I’ve also driven a nearly brand new (back in 1968) 1966 389 Tri-power (bright candy apple red with white vinyl interior and the “chrome” package)…did the ’04 instill the abject excitement of a ’66? Not for a moment.
There was nothing wrong with the performance of the new GTO…it clearly performed well. In my always humble opinion, the car simply wasn’t “special”…there was nothing about the car that made people “have to have it”. In its heyday, everybody wanted a GTO even though only a relatively few would buy one…the GTOs of the 60’s though early 70’s had a magic that the current offering simply didn’t have. Maybe you can chalk it up to unexciting styling…maybe times have just changed…maybe there isn’t “room” anymore for a GTO.
