Like "Car and Driver" TV, I do applaud GM for making this entry…thank God they are trying. And like others who have mentioned here; we may see great things with this car in a couple of years.
But, I too wonder why GM killed the Z28/TransAm; cars that looked much better, handled better, went faster and cost less and then came out with this.
I doubt that many who would have bought a Z28/TransAM are the same who would buy a new GTO but GM's logic escapes me so perhaps it's an apples to oranges comparison but for my money, there are several vehicles in the $35-$40K price range that I'd rather have.
Maybe I just need to go build an AC Cobra 427 replica and stop trying to figure GM out!!!

) But anyone can do the math and see that, with much more HP and IRS it should "out-handle" and "out-run" the F-Bod's it replaced.
It's definitely more refined, and more comparable to BMW's than 2002 F-Bodies...And that was the intension, to draw away a few of higher end sports car buyers with a comparable Domestic car at a discount price..(..discount to them anyways..)
Well, for me, personally, it's too much because I don't have the money for a $33,000 car now. So I guess I'm with ya there.
But in the marketplace, you'll be hard pressed to find something that will match it for the money. Maybe a Mustang Cobra, but even there it's 3 grand more...Or is that overpriced too?

Here we go. For what you get. 32K is too much. Oh damn I forgot about those "race style drilled pedels". Yea 32K is about right.
(But there's nothing worse than having your foot slip off a pedal in a race..
)And you probably won't be getting one for the $32K, seems dealers are getting SO MUCH interest in them around here they are marking them up a couple of $G's...
(..time to get out that torch...
)
alright, for a new car picks, this is how I view it, for the $32k range.
You can about get a Mustang Cobra. Tons of speed, RWD, not much refinement. Or for AWD pure speed, the STi or Evo.
Or you can go for a loaded up Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, or a lowend Lexus or Acura nameplate. Typical comfortable well put together japanese FWD cars.
Or, get a BMW, Mercedes, or Cadillac for RWD.. (like the 3 series and CTS).. or go AWD with Audi. I guess the Lincoln LS series too?
Or get the GTO, which it does well in the Perf catagory compared to the *** and rwd lux cars(i don't think any of them go faster than mid to high 14's in the quater and 0-60 of 6's.... Just the question of how well it compares in comfort to the rwd lux cars..
