Lightbulb GTO buyers are not F-body buyers

But, I too wonder why GM killed the Z28/TransAm; cars that looked much better, handled better, went faster and cost less and then came out with this.

I doubt that many who would have bought a Z28/TransAM are the same who would buy a new GTO but GM's logic escapes me so perhaps it's an apples to oranges comparison but for my money, there are several vehicles in the $35-$40K price range that I'd rather have.

Maybe I just need to go build an AC Cobra 427 replica and stop trying to figure GM out!!!
A guy I have worked with for about 5 or so years, is a 5.0(mustang) guy. He has been wanting a Mustang Cobra for most of the time I've known him. About that same amount of time I've been working on him to get a Z or a T/A, and GM is better yada, yada, yada. He liked the 4th gen T/A's in its last years especially the Ram Air models, but still was intent on getting a Cobra as soon as he was in a position to buy. All the while I had been updating him on things to come from GM ( he's not that up on things, doesn't even have a pc yet). He seemed to be pretty excited about the GTO when he heard about it and was constantly asking me to let him know when it was at the dealer ( he knows I live close to one), so he could go to see it in person. So when I saw it I did. Well he came to work last mon. after seeing the black one they had and now he is crazy for the GTO. I couldn't believe it when he said to me "Everyone has a Mustang" "I want one of them GTO's"! I think they did the right thing bringing it back. I like it, and I know exactly what they are doing, however I will be waiting for the Camaro's return, just like any corp. sometimes bad decisions are made( killing F-body). I also helped push his brother over the edge and buy the Vette he always wanted.

This remains to be seen, depending on who's doing the testing, it goes from mid-13's to mid 14's on tires that can't put the power to the pavement...(An age old problem... )

But anyone can do the math and see that, with much more HP and IRS it should "out-handle" and "out-run" the F-Bod's it replaced.
It's definitely more refined, and more comparable to BMW's than 2002 F-Bodies...And that was the intension, to draw away a few of higher end sports car buyers with a comparable Domestic car at a discount price..(..discount to them anyways..)

Well, for me, personally, it's too much because I don't have the money for a $33,000 car now. So I guess I'm with ya there.

But in the marketplace, you'll be hard pressed to find something that will match it for the money. Maybe a Mustang Cobra, but even there it's 3 grand more...Or is that overpriced too?

You're forgetting MUCH more than that BRZ, must be gettin' "half-timmers", kinda like Alsheimers but just "half" the time..
(But there's nothing worse than having your foot slip off a pedal in a race.. )
And you probably won't be getting one for the $32K, seems dealers are getting SO MUCH interest in them around here they are marking them up a couple of $G's...
(..time to get out that torch... )

alright, for a new car picks, this is how I view it, for the $32k range.

You can about get a Mustang Cobra. Tons of speed, RWD, not much refinement. Or for AWD pure speed, the STi or Evo.

Or you can go for a loaded up Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, or a lowend Lexus or Acura nameplate. Typical comfortable well put together japanese FWD cars.

Or, get a BMW, Mercedes, or Cadillac for RWD.. (like the 3 series and CTS).. or go AWD with Audi. I guess the Lincoln LS series too?

Or get the GTO, which it does well in the Perf catagory compared to the *** and rwd lux cars(i don't think any of them go faster than mid to high 14's in the quater and 0-60 of 6's.... Just the question of how well it compares in comfort to the rwd lux cars..
