Boy, I bet that is gonna be a scary (as in ill handling at speed) ride, The Ford GT was never meant to be a race car, only race car inpsired. That said, I hope it proves successful.

I really doubt the car will be scary at speed, unless your definition of "at speed" is grossly different than my definition of it. I just want to know the specs on the cars, and if there is any serious intention of racing it. Ford talks about heritage all of the time. Here is some heritage I can understand, and it would go along way with the car as well.

Re: GT(40) race ready!

The current GT like its progenitor had some high speed aero issues (IIRC GT40's got light in the tail and would spin out, the problem was fixed with a duck tail), the current GT needed some aero work to counteract the lift it generated so they did alot of undebody stuff to counteract it. I think if Ford had been serious about racing the car (and a 1-2-3 finish at Lemans would be a killer repeat) the current GT would have been a far more different beast and would have been way more expensive.

Re: GT(40) race ready!

Yeah, I know about its aero issues. For the most part it seems Ford has ironed most of its high speed stability issues out, but the GT is by no means an aerodynamic missile. I am not sure what it's frontal area is, but it's CD is something like .38. Not really that great. I am sure Ford could have built a much more aerodynamic car if they wanted to, but they insisted on keeping the new GT looking almost identical to the old GT40.

Ford has two huge problems with a 1-2-3 repeat. A C6r and o what do you know another C6R.

No street car is built or meant to be a race car straight from the factory. Race cars are a completely different breed than their street brethren.

Bad aero or not, i don't think the current GT has much of a problem with high speed stability. Ford seems to have done their homework on it. Guy that did 205mph with the GT at Nardo said it felt very stable @ 205mph. Credit that to all the underbody work Ford did on it i guess. Modern tech helped greatly in overcoming many of the aerodynamic issues the original suffered from.

I think it has real potential as a race car. I'm pretty positive Ford won't race it, but maybe a private race team or racecar builder will like this company. Who knows.
