Got a lesson in why GM incentives are not working...
As I said in my other thread...I was looking at a 04 Grand Prix the other day at a dealer. The dealer had signs up that said 10% of any car on the lot. I asked teh salesman if that was on top of rebates...he said he thought so. So I was thinking if I got say a Grand Am that would be 3000+(10% of the $24,000 MSRP=$2400) = a total of $5400 of the car. Well it was only untill I got to F&I that the guy was like "No, we don;t do rebates, just 10% on every car...alot of the time it gives us play room"..Meaning to start negotiations he was only gonna give me $2,400 off teh cara nd make me haggle for the rest of a rebate I should already get.
That made me think...a bottom of the line Sunfire coupe costs $15,495 barebones model.
A Base Civic coupe on the otherhand starts at $12,810...

Now sure after the full rebate the Sunfire will cost slightly less....but if the dealer is going to make you fight and claw...what is the point. That makes the problem two pronged....
1. GM's cars cost to much to compensate for rebates.
2. Greedy dealers trying to hide the rebates and making customers haggle to get the full amount makes it easier in this case to just buy a Civic. and not worry about the rebate mess...

I agree with Darth Xed ... shop somewhere else.
I would usually expect a discount of 7 to 10% before we play the rebate game. My 2000 300M I got for 80% of MSRP when accounting for incentives. (Cash deal)
My 2001 Montana I ended with 10% off and 60 months at 1.9% for 100% financing (taxes and fees in) (this was two years ago).
The dealer you are looking at is using the rebate to get the initial 10% drop ....

Does the dealer even have the option of "doing" rebates (except for factory-to-dealer incentives)? I'd be inclined to make a phone call to the regional office letting them know that while GM promises rebates of $3000, XYZ dealer has chosen to keep $600 of that and only give you $2400.

You could have picked just about any other Pontiac (except the Aztek) and I might have agreed with you.

I thought I read that GM's "rebate war" was over they cant afford to keep going????So that would make what the salesman told you true.

I saw in an ad sunday that you can get a Saturn Ion 4 door for only $9225 after rebates.
how can they afford to sell a brand new car for that much. Also does anyone know how much the Quad coupe goes for after rebates???
