The Good old days are gone

GM simply can't compete with Ford. Could GM make a car that comes from the factory with 390hp & under 35K? The GTO is a joke to the old GTO. It a mix or a cavalier and a sunfire. Really a disgrace. No styling what so ever. It looks like they just wanted to put a product out there. Ford has a grip on this market now and its putting GM through the floor. Sadly so GM doesn't mind it. Here a toast to the 60-70 GTO and out 4th Gens.

Are you serious? I don't even know where to start... "Putting GM through the floor"?! Have you been frozen in a cryo freezer since about 1985?

350HP for $33K is pretty close, just wait until the LS6 or LS2 GTOs come out.

by 2006 you will be able to buy TWO 500HP Z06s for less than the price of ONE 500HP Ford GT

You want to talk about a joke, the Fully Loaded Lincon LS gives you 280HP for $49K, a Fully loaded CTSv Gives you 400HP for $50K

I'm talking about the F body vs the Sh!tstang. They won that war and GM is just stading in the side lines for now. Letting Ford get a strangle hold on that market. So far from the cocept cars that I've seen GM has nothing. The New GTO is a disgrace. Just a plain car with no styling at all. BTW the GTO might make 400hp but at what cost?? 40-50K?? I rather get a Vette which is much nicer. GTO enthusiast are not going to run out and get this Sunfire/Cavalier mix of a car.

But who's selling more in this class? Honestly I rather a Marauder. I've seen those and its a nice car.

Oh...my...gosh. A Marauder over a CTS-V?! I should tell you that the knitting and basket weaving forum is on another board... Seriously, though, the GTO isn't being sold as a retro deal like the Thunderbird. They are capitalizing on the name, yes, but the car should appeal (on its own merits, not the name) to those looking for a fast, comfortable 4 place coupe. Say, for example, someone looking at an Acura TL or Infinity G35 or something like that. Against those types of cars, suddenly 350 hp from a Gen III small block backed by a six speed manual doesn't seem so bad, does it? I mean, hey, we are all bitter about the F-body dying (and hopeful for a resurrection), but your original post came across as Ford owning GM overall, not just the Mustang vs. Camaro sales battle...

CTSv isn't on sale yet so they havn't sold any yet, plus it is limited production only 3000-4000 will be built.

Marauder is a very nice car as long as you don't mine being slower than most new FWD V6 cars.

Sunfire vs. GTO

If you think they look the same then you better go down to the DMV and turn in your licence, because I don't want anyone with eyes that bad driving on the roads with me.

Maybe not, but someone wanting a rwd 2-door car with a powerful V8, a 6 speed, and a useable back seat, but without outlandish styling just might. I know I would buy one in a heartbeat if I wasn't poor.

I would pass on the GTO. Its has a blah style. Doesn't catch you eye at all. I don't think it retro at all. At least the Thunderbird has a retro/modern look to it. The point is you're trying to get sales and attract the consumer. GTO just doesn't look like muscle car.

Yes, it is bland, but that was the point. There are people out there that want an awesome performing car without overly aggresive styling. They'll sell everyone of the 18,000 they bring over here. They can't make anymore than that because that's the limit of capacity for production.

If it makes you feel better, hoodscoops will return for the '05. For '07 a slightly more aggressive GTO will return on an even more modern chassis with more power and built in the U.S..

If you're talking performance...The new GTO would eat a Marauder alive. It would also hold it's own with any Mustang out there accept for maybe the Cobra. But again, that's not the point. It's a classy performer.
