GM declines comment on report of talks to buy Chrysler
I think that the integration of technologies, products, and engineers/designers would be great, and would make a strong company. But I dont think that there is any way that it would work. Thousands of dealerships would have to close, and we all know GM has the closing dealership bug. Not to mention the fact that GM has been trying to shy away from competing with itself, and a buyout of this scale would just increase the problem.
I think that they might be looking into a deal like that of the Nissan/Renult proposal. But it looks as if it may be only on the large SUV side of the industry. http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=44989

I wonder if the "Chrysler" part of the company would include Jeep. I don't think GM needs or really even has a desire for Chrysler, but Jeep would be cool. Hummer could easily fall into the Jeep brand. That would solve Lutz's problem about getting some smaller Hummers in the lineup. I'm not sure a Jeep H2 would go over well with the Hummer faithful though.
GM credit rating is pretty bad. They don't have the capital to buy. If they tried to get a loan, the interest would kill them. What would they really gain for buying it? My guess is that DCX will spin off the Chrysler division. The only money being made in DCX is from Mercedes.
So how could this really help GM?
