Are GM's warrantys causing part of their image problem?
So I've seen this mentioned briefly in other posts, but I don't know if we've really elaborated on it. As I was looking at cars the past few days, I noticed that GM is one of the only companies that still does 3 year 36,000 mile warranties, and that most of the import companies do 7 yr 75,000.
As GM tries to change their "cheap american car" image, could this become a problem? With the 60month financing GM is pushing, people will still be paying for their cars for 3 years after their warranty expires, meaning not only do they have to cover the monthly payment, they also have to cover any repairs for that period of time.
One would think that a company serious about showing how much better quality their cars are now would not be afraid to back it up in writing.
Is there some other piece to this puzzle I'm missing?
Thoughts?
