GMI 5th Generation design contest finalists

http://www.gminsidenews.com/5contest.shtml

We chose 5, the winner of the public poll gets sent to a few people at GM who were interested in seeing the winner...notably the Fbodfather

With just a tweak here or there the entry by Narcszm would make a great Chevelle. JMO

FWIW I voted for the futuristic one at the bottom.

Thumbs up My thoughts....

Here is how I would rank the finalist (#1 being best)

#5-Narcszm
#4-Ja Witcombe
#3-CamaroKid128
#2-Raven
#1-JohnnyGMachine

I did not participate in the contest, but I give props to all who did.
Excellent selection of entries.
There sure are a lot of VERY talented artists out there, with a passion for future vechicle design. It is great to see this.

Good job Branden and everyone involved in making a great contest.

I voted for Narcszm's. It looks a lot like the 427 concept, and I know it's based on a Cadillac CTS photo (I recognize the backdrop), but I'd like to see it shortened a lot in the trunk and a little in the hood.

I agree, I voted for Narcszm's concept. I like the way it looks, it just needs to be a little lower and lose the ugly bowtie on the nose and replace it with the Camaro symbol. Best concept I've seen yet.

Ironically my choices among the five finalists, and order of preference mirrors that of the current poll....

1. JohnnyGMachine 35.1%
2. CamaroKid128 29.7%
3. Raven 17.6%
4. Narcszm 12.2%
5. Witcombe 5.4%

No offense to the judges and contestants but allow me to make the following observations...

JohnnyGMachine - Everyone knocks this conceptual sketch because it is "unrealistic". Yeah about as much as the SS concept was. To me it speaks of an evolution of the Camaro.

CamaroKid128 - A little on the retro-side but still a close second in my opinion. Actually looks buildable.

Raven - Too retro. Its a beautiful concept and Raven is a true artist. Still its basically a second gen Camaro with a body kit and mods. While I'd still consider it if purchasing a 5th gen Camaro, I'd prefer one of the previous concepts first.

Narcszm - I'm sorry but I cannot understand how this even made the cut. Sure its based on an existing platform, but at best its a hack photoshop job. No thank you.

Witcombe - Nice work on an original concept, however it too much looks like an average sedan. I see more Ford Taurus than Camaro in this design.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, but other than the concepts by JohnnyGMachine and CamaroKid128, I hope Chevy looks elsewhere for inspiration.

I was gonna post my opinions on the concepts, but jg95z28 pretty much just did it for me. And I don't know how that car got in there either?!

IMO 90Z28SS's Third Gen looking concept with the SS hood should have been in there. Maybe fixed up a little though.

I dont think jg95z28 had entered in time, i agree even though im in the contest it would have been nice to see different eras represented in the contest and his would have filled in a blank.

I didn't enter. After seeing your design and John's I figured, why bother? lol I'd love to see Chevy pursue either one of these concepts, however, I'm now less "in the mood" for a "retro" 5th gen now that I have my '67.

Yeah, I'm a fickle old-fart!

The choices were all very good. It made it extremely hard to choose just one when i was asked to pick a finalist.

Raven's has the widest mass-market appeal! Not to mention, I'm utterly bored with chrome wheels zzzzzzz. and I love that rear end. I can't believe more people aren't voting for that. GT

Thanks for the props, Kizz I guess there are not a lot of second-gen fans out there. I grew up in the 70's (I'm 35) so I guess my design choice was influenced by the F-Bodies that initially influenced me as a youth. As I posted on another thread regarding "what defines a Camaro", I believe the 2nd gen Camaros (and even moreso, the 2nd gen Firebirds) are the ones that most clearly define the F-body breed.

Anyway, there are no losers in this contest, all of the design submissions have merit and creativity. I'd like to thank the guys over at GMInsidenews.com for providing an outlet for car enthusiasts to be able share their creative thoughts about what the next Camaro should look like.
