Maybe you could just subtract 1v per cylinder and have an even better small block...

GM claims the advanced propulsion system in the XT will return a remarkable 50% improvement in fuel economy over comparable midsize trucks on sale today. We estimate that puts the XT's mpg-rating around 28 to 32 miles-per-gallon.
Makes me think that this is a two mode hybrid. They are giving the same numbers for the Vue two mode hybrid (50% better fuel economy).

The press release says it is:

It builds on the equity of the Denali line and its reputation for advanced engineering and refinement, including the first combination of GM's two-mode hybrid system with an E85 ethanol-capable engine. Denali XT's new, more efficient 4.9L version of GM's small-block V-8 features fuel-saving technologies such as direct-injection technology and Active Fuel Management.

This 2 mode system is the RWD one used in the Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade lineup except w/ this new 4.9 LSx V8 instead of the 6.0. The Vue uses a 3.6 DI w/ a FWD adapted 2 mode system.

What famous Camaro Engine was also a 4.9L? The 69 302

As I said in another post, maybe the Denali XT version of this engine is tuned for a more truck-like RPM curve compared to what a sporty car version would be tuned for?

Here's another thought. The Solstice GXP/Sky Redline 2.0L DI turbo 4 cylinder makes 130hp per liter. How much power could a twin turbo 4.9L DI V8 make? The same as the LS9

I'm reminded of the thoughts about the next gen 'Vette with a smaller engine with 50 [ he said 150, but that doesn't add up unless you're starting from the Z06 ] fewer horsepower, lighter weight, and better mileage.

All nice and good but as pictured it probably costs $55K or more. Whats a 3.6L non denali version gonna run?

Is this the Zeta crossover that will take the place of the G8 wagon? It really seems so with the camaro like dash and console. But the 123.4 inch wheel base seems really long for a car platform.

This also supports the thought of a camaro hybrid if it is zeta.

Interesting looks, very Audi'ish which isn't a bad thing. If this truck could be produced and put in the small truck Colorado/Canyon area it would do very well against the Tacoma, Dakota and Nissan's little truck. Since Ford is letting this market go by not upgrading the Ranger. I would think small trucks with hybrid options and very sedan like interiors would be a viable choice in the CAFE world ahead. If V8's get a extra charge I could see some of the F150/Silverado/Tundra buyers moving to a truck like this.
