I agree, the two big examples I can think of off the top of my head were the last gen Grand Prix and the Honda Accord. The two door versions of both look(ed) about 500 times better than the four door versions.

Agreed

I like the sportiness factor of a 2 door, but I admit a lot of my love of 2 doors is sheerly old-school mentality. In the '80s when I was a little kid I loved F bodies, Monte SSs, GNs etc. There were no real cool 4 door American cars until the Taurus SHO came along, and then that was a Ford...so that didn't work for me at age 9

I have owned 6 cars, and the only 4 door was a beater Skyhawk I used to keep salt off the RS. I was very disappointed when GM also dropped the Grand Am SE coupe...it was a sporty, cheap solution for a lot of 2 door buyers who didn't want GTs. I hope GM changes this when the G6 coupe comes out...assuming they offer the new 2.4 with a 5 speed (does anyone know about that???), my fiance and I might be able to swing that one with my dealer discounts...otherwise its used for us. She likes the Cobalt coupe but after driving the GP a lot wants a somewhat larger car, and will NOT buy a 4 door. The Probe is getting full "competition" treatment aka getting gutted and lowered and ready for autocrossing...not going to be a good daily driver for her anymore

Like my sig says, stop laughing at my Probe!

There was a kid I went to school with who had a turd brown 1980's Probe. Big POS, bad paint, never ran right, etc. We always gave him a hard time about it and called it the **** Probe

Yeah, I don't know what it was with the Mazda plant the Probe/MX-6 were built at, but the paint quality is horrible as these cars get older. I may do some less aggressive things to it for now to keep it an acceptable daily driver and beat around in it for awhile longer, and let her drive the GP and finsih paying it off. With only 67k miles on it, it runs so good I hate to part with it...hence the auto-x idea. With it only worth about $2,000-2,500 or so, for that $$ I can save it and have some fun with it I figure. The inside is like brand new...I'm thinking about just sanding and priming the outside and having a shop spray a new coat of red.

I've met on a Probe site (yes, one actually exists...) several people with more than 200k on their '93+ Probes, and a couple with older Probes like your friend's with high 200s to even 350k miles! I might not be a Ford/Mazda fan, but even I can appreciate that...

Polish the paint out first. You may be pleasantly surprised.

LOL...I did, and I was. Then it all sort of glazed over again within 2-3 months. I don't think there's any clearcoat left on this car. Grrr...I can keep spending 3-4 hours a month keeping it up and still have it less than perfect, or spend a few bucks on a halfway decent, cheap paint job. Still mulling that one over...
