I was suprised that the Cadillac plant is being shut down to reduce inventory. Maybe GM was being overly optomistic when drawing up sales projections

As for the Caynon and Colorado plant being shut down, that does not suprise me. I personally think both of them are ugly, and you can get a lot more hp from the competition. Nissian and Dodge offer more power. Even Toyota has us beat for horsepower now

GM will be out of the car business by 2015.

I heard on the radio this morning that some investment company downgraded their rating for GM today. Havn't seen anything else on it, though.

The choice is between ratcheting up incentives OR taking the truly expensive step - shutting down production.

In the end, a production cut is the right move if GM wants to build back the resale value of Cadillacs.

So you've finally come around to my way of thinking? GM did just about everything absolutely wrong with Colorado/Canyon. The S-10 replacement needed to be a true midsized truck with class-leading performance and power. What GM got was a compact with a wierdo 5-cylinder.

A Colorado/Canyon is better than a Ranger (maybe), but it certainly doesn't compare to the new Dakota, Tacoma and Frontier.

Yet they're still leading their segment by a long shot and, as the article points out, gaining share in a declining segment.

It's pretty clear to me that the market for compact trucks is dying. I'm more hopefull about true midsized trucks, but not very.

.....Ford's weekly production report also said it plans to close the Twin Cities assembly plant in St. Paul, Minnesota, for another week. The Twin Cities plant is the source of the Ford Ranger. The Ranger, once one of the most popular vehicles in the Ford lineup, has seen sales decline sharply over the past couple of years.
It all makes me wonder if the owners of compact trucks aren't hit harder by rising gas prices than more affluent buyers of fullsized trucks?

I'm going to backtrack on my ugly statement. The only ones that are ugly are the 4x4's with all that silly black plastic. I saw a Xtreme Coloarado at the Chevy dealership yesterday, and it looked nice with everything being body color, smaller fender flares, and it had an awesome stance since it was lowered quite significantly. If they'd drop a V8 or the Trailblazer I-6 in there, I really wouldn't have any reservations about it.

Yes, but remember it was only a partial year for Colorado. Colorado took over the lead in the second half of the year and didn't look back.

You will never see an I6 in there - it just doesnt fit. The V8 is still a posibility though.
