GM should build a fleet only Epsilon
GM should build a fleet only Epsilon
With all the backlash that GM gets for selling Malibus and Impalas to fleets (and it hurts resale) why not build a fleet only model?
Start with the current Malibu (new one is coming in '08) and give it different sheet metal and the 2.2L as the only engine. Interior should be nice, and can be a Malibu clone to save money. Out side should be very conservative. Make a stretched version off the long wheel base Epsilon to satisfy those that want something more Impala sized, offer it with the 3.5L HV.
This could be just a low end Epsilon with just the basic options. Interior must be nice though because even though its only a rental/fleet, people make opinions about all Chevys based a rentals or Fleets they drive. GM gets its fleet sales, and regular Chevy customers get better resale. Win-Win. Just look at the resale on the current Classic and 04-05 Malibu, this method works.
edit: 2004 classics can be had for $9500 with as little as 16,000 miles

Re: GM should build a fleet only Epsilon
With all of GM's overcapicity, I don't see how this would be a problem from a capacity standpoint. Maybe they could keep those factories humming instead of idling them, which ends up costing almost as much for the workers doing no work.
Re: GM should build a fleet only Epsilon
If you mean fleets as in rentals, then that's easy. GM (and every other car maker) uses rental fleets as a way to get people to try their cars.
I try to rent a different car every time I need a rental, and rentals have changed my opinion on many cars.
The Impala and Malibu pleasantly surprised the living daylights out of me.
The Bonneville, Maxima, and the Hyundai Sonata were cars I thought highly of.... until I actually drove it. Now? Dan't ask.
I also got a new found appriciation of the Lincoln LS V8 and warts and all look at the Ford Mustang (that makes me far more likely to actually buy one myself) as well as the Chrysler 300, & Dodge Magnum, that although still left me extremely impressed (extremely nice solid cars), I realize these cars may not exactly be for me.

What about taking the MAXX and adding a trunk to it so it looks more like a sedan and has a larger overhang. Then you would have some MAJOR rear leg room!

I wonder if corp. fleet sale offers enough volume for my idea
