Shifts? From where? I thought the Beat was only a concept vehicle. I sure can't get anything but concept images to show up on a google search. Wikipedia says it was designed entirely by Daewoo and built in India... count me out.

^Yeah, thats it. It basically says that the beat is a turbocharged 1.2 liter mini car that gets 40 mpg and was originally proposed for Asian and Latin American markets.
Looks like the Smartfor2 car is getting some competition.

Because they are heavier, will not get as good of mileage as the Beat, and will not expand the market lineup.

Thats good to hear. I think it should draw the "cool" element the Aveo just wont ever pull off.

If it was a recent concept car, I wonder how many years away it is until its produced.

and by then gas'll be $1.05 due to the find of 50 years worth of oil in the southern hemisphere.

which really annoys me. lutz said theyre hoping to bring it here by 2012. whatever happened to GM's ability to have a car go from concept to production in 2 years that they touted back when the solstice was first a concept. it took 4 years to get the solstice to market, but apparently 2 years of that were just deciding whether or not to make the damn thing. but seriously this is a small car it shouldnt take as long to engineer than a suburban just based on size and number of parts alone. GM needs this car right this second.

Beat will be out in other countries late 2009 or early 2010.

The next Cobalt is a more important car for GM.

The problem isn't engineering, mules are already running around. This car will be on sale in Asia late next year IIRC. Why couldn't it just be imported to the US like the Aveo is?

The only problem may be safety, it is a VERY small car after all.
