GM Said to Study Shedding Saab, Saturn, Pontiac to Win U.S. Aid
After 2010 the STS is dead. DTS's Zeta replacement is also dead. The DTS however, gets a reprieve, and will soldier on a while longer. It'll probably lose it's Northstar though, which is too bad.
Other than the versions of the CTS coming, it doesn't sound like there is much to cheer about at Cadillac for the next few years.
Alpha can't come soon enough......
No plans for that.

Hopefully. I wonder what the XLR profit margins are though, and if cancelling it would actually divert money to other programs.
If the XLR was killed, that makes the most sense.

I can't fully understand those of you who feel that Pontiac has an identity crisis. I'm not great with automotive history, but can anyone point to a model year lineup from pontiac that included ONLY performance minded cars? Or ONLY <fill in the blank> minded cars? It seems to me that their lineup had always included economy sub-compacts, mid sized coupes/sedans, sport coupes and large sedans.
In 1969, you had the Firebird & Trans Am. The Firebird Sprint came with a 250 CI OHC straight six with a 4 bbl carb. It had 230 HP and got great mileage (for the time). And you could outfit a Firebird right up to the 335 horse RAIII. And a T/A could go to the 345 horse RAIV.
There was a 330 horse 350 available in the LeMans in '69. The GTO could be had with the 370 horse RAIV.
The Grand Prix had a plethora of engine availability all the way up to the 390 horse 428 H.O.
The full size cars could go as high as a 360 horse 428.
ALL of these cars could be optioned with manual transmissions, bigger wheels & tires, sport suspensions, bigger brakes, etc.
And this was just in 1969.
I saw a '67 Catalina hardtop at a local car show this year. It had a 360 horse428 with the 4-spd manual trans. It was pretty loaded up, too. VERY COOL car.
I could go on & on & on, but I don't feel like typing. There are SEVERAL good books out there outlining Pontiac's performance history. Quite impressive.
Back then, performance was not Pontiac's middle name. It was it's first, middle, AND last name.
Other than low power and high fuel consumption it's great. Unfortunately, "smooth" is about all that's left.
It's too bad that the DTS will be allowed to become obsolete like the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis.
The thing is, it doesn't have the livery services to keep it around like the Town Car. I guess there's still a lot of demand for newly-built old cars in Cadillac-land.
Necessary. The fuel mileage of the DTS Northstar is terrible, and power is less than V6s 3/4 the size.

Imagine BMW trying to sell a 740i with a 282hp V8 and 5 spd auto from 1995...
Oh well, no point beating this dead horse. Hopefully GM will be able to make all Cadillac models first rate soon.
