GM to Reveal Saturn Astra and Pontiac G8 at Chicago (also two special 'Vettes)

http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...74&docid=32932

"Saturn continues its product revitalization with the new Astra compact car, along with the 2008 Vue Red Line and Vue Green Line hybrid. The Astra marks the fifth all-new vehicle in Saturn’s lineup, and is the last step in a complete reinvention of the brand’s showroom in less than 20 months.

The G8 sedan represents Pontiac 's continuing commitment to rear-wheel-drive performance, and adds to the G6 GXP and Torrent GXP recently introduced in Detroit. Additionally, a pair of special-edition Chevrolet Corvettes will debut."

Is there any intel on these two 'Vettes?

From what I hear on the Vettes, one will be a signature edition Z06 of some sort (forget who), and it will be in White, which is not avaialble normally on a Z06.

The other is possibly an Indy Pace Car.

Ron Fellows, two-time co-winner of Le Mans and three time ALMS GTS champion (all in Vettes).

You mean Blue Devil? I think that one's still a year away or more. I heard it was the Ron Fellows Signature, which is a white Z06, and a Pace Car.

I've seen pics of a Z06 convertable, but I don't think that is exciting enough to bring to an autoshow.

Yes. The Astra is supposed to take it's place. I don't know if the Saturn people have had this idea or not yet, but they should take the turbo Ecotec from the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline and put it in the Astra (it already comes with a non-DI version of the turbo 2.0L in the rest of the world). The resulting "hot hatch" would compete with the likes of the Mazdaspeed 3, VW GTI, etc.

If they put a Z06 Convertible in production, I say screw Camaro.

There will be an overlap (Ion has picked up on sales lately), but like skorpion said, the Ion will be replaced.
