Thanks for the reply Fbodfather. But with 21 GM/Delphi plants moving offshore, I'm just not having a moment here. This goes way beyond the UAW's self-interest and gets to fundemental issues about how the economy is being managed. (Issues that I might add are really only discussed by big labor.)

One last anecdote: I had a conversation online with a retiree -- he was mad at GM because of the cutbacks, so he went out and bought a Honda built in Japan. Please -- I'm begging you -- help me to understand his rationale!!!
I'll admit I buy German and Swedish because of the hope that the US workers will get six weeks of paid vacation some day. Long shot, I know.

I think there's something to be said about buying products that are produced by workers who have a desirable standard of living. I'd rather purchase domestically-produced products, but when that's not possible, I then start looking for products from countries where I'd like to live.

Given the amount of product that certain "foreign" car companies purchase from my employer while certain "domestic" manufacturers continue to move stuff to the Far East, I wonder how much longer those "domestic" manufacturers can continue to play the Buy American card.

What, you mean like the toyota sienna being touted by the press as more american tham rustnag based on % domestic parts content?

Could you elaborate then about GM spinning off Delphi when it was a known sinking ship?
