They still have to get profitable in the US. Still, they've made quite a nice turnaround.

Yeah I'm definitely happy for them. They've made a lot of good decisions here recently. I am no financial analyst though - I'm wondering if people suspect this is just the momentum temporarily swinging in their favor, or a sign or more permanent profitability?

I think Zeta will really help the bottom line. From what I've read about Delta II platform sharing I think that will do well too.

GM has been very profitable everywhere BUT the US. If GM can continue to turn around the NA operations, all will be very good. Once that happens, it's up to GM to keep up with competition, not lag behind again by letting models go too long before "refreshes" and redesigns.

I am a business analyst (pretty close to the same thing). IMHO, every company has ebbs and flows. It is how you deal with these peaks and valleys that make and break a company. The U.S. market will continue to shrink for GM especially as Toyota keeps gaining share. The equilibrium of these two companies in a stagnant U.S. market, and to a lesser extent, growing World market is unknown.

GM will maintain profitability YOY not necessarily YTD. If you guys presume a quick one year turn-around in profit, it won't happen. GM has a PR problem, due to quality, that will take a good 10 more years to turn perception. That is when equilibrium will be reached in the U.S.
