GM removing mark of excellence badges

The little chrome GM badge on the side of the vehicles is going away. GM hasn't said why, but I am betting that GM is going to start advertising GM a lot less and core brands more. If that is the root of it all, I say it is a good one.

He was forced to resign.
Whether he thought of the idea himself, or he simply ran with an idea from one of his executives, Rick Wagoner bears the credit for deciding to affix the GM badges to the side of all GM vehicles.
I recall it earned it's own thread here, so a search might still pull it up.
The logic behind it seems completely stupid today, and I recall most of us here were scratching our heads wonder what was he thinking.
I remember one of Ricks rational for those things. He said people drive vehicles made by GM (I suspect he meant Saturn in particular), but have no idea that the car is made by GM. He felt that once people realized a vehicle they were driving was made by GM, they would have a higher opinion of GM.
Instead (as I recall someone predicted...no it wasn't me) that instead, the GM association would soil the brand instad of the brand spiffing up GM.
Seems that person was right.
