GM removing mark of excellence badges

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...roducts-83344/

The little chrome GM badge on the side of the vehicles is going away. GM hasn't said why, but I am betting that GM is going to start advertising GM a lot less and core brands more. If that is the root of it all, I say it is a good one.

They are an eyesore, almost as much as the big gold bowtie on the front of every Chevy they build anymore...

Sheez, I've been saying they should get rid of them just as they announced they were putting them on in the first place.

A bad idea, a waste of money, and basically no one wanted them.

Yup, this was a waste from the beginning. No one ever wanted them. I don't know why old GM was so into pushing GM as a brand instead of the actual brands.

good. but does that mean they will stop putting them on 2010 models or will the camaro be special and some will have it, some won't?

+1 ont he whole idea that "we're GM, not Chevy" was a bad idea.

Those things were a symbol of all that was wrong with GM.

Is whoever decided to put them on all GM vehicles still employed by the company?

Strangely enough, my 2009 G8 GT has one on the drivers' side, but not the passenger side...?

I wonder how much money that will save them?

I figure they are penny's a piece but when you sell as many cars as they do....that can pay a few salaries

I like them on my 09 Aura... I think it goes especially well since my car is silver with gray and silver interior. Never knew they were called 'mark of excellence' though...

Actually, no.

He was forced to resign.

Whether he thought of the idea himself, or he simply ran with an idea from one of his executives, Rick Wagoner bears the credit for deciding to affix the GM badges to the side of all GM vehicles.

I recall it earned it's own thread here, so a search might still pull it up.

The logic behind it seems completely stupid today, and I recall most of us here were scratching our heads wonder what was he thinking.

I remember one of Ricks rational for those things. He said people drive vehicles made by GM (I suspect he meant Saturn in particular), but have no idea that the car is made by GM. He felt that once people realized a vehicle they were driving was made by GM, they would have a higher opinion of GM.

Instead (as I recall someone predicted...no it wasn't me) that instead, the GM association would soil the brand instad of the brand spiffing up GM.

Seems that person was right.
