GM needs cool sub 20K cars....

Just throwing out a statement.. GM really needs some cool cars that cost less than 20 grand. I thought about getting a Cobalt SS but before my GM discount it was like 24,000. I could get a freaking C5 for that. While I'm at it I'll list a couple more of my wishes for GM...

AWD car please.... I know STS but it's like 45k

Turbo I-5 (H3 concept) in colorado/canyon and maybe name it cyclone? V8 would do also

Bring over more opels like the Astra

Stop putting the same 5 spoke wheels on every SS!!! Plus offer more than one well for the Camaro.

Start advertising about good reliability

Fire people that designed the new vans.

That's all for now, anymore good ones?

Vibe AWD
Any GM FWD car with T/C.

NOTE:

FWD with traction control gives you 90% of the capability of AWD. GM did the study already. AWD is for the extreme, whether it be elements or performance.

I agree, and there may be an answer for that soon too.

GM offers GM accessory wheel options, SS included.

They do, as well as for fuel economy. But still not good enough yet.

They will be gone soon if that helps. They aren't bad vans at all though, you'd just have to get past the looks if that turns you off.

Re: GM needs cool sub 20K cars....

No offense but I don't think there is really any comparison between FWD and AWD tractions wise.

Plus I wouldn't really count solstice because with one option it's over 20. Also, if you want an extended cab 2wd colorado you'll pay over 20 if you want power windows. And 20 if you want a reg cab with I-5

I will give you SS non s/c.

got any ideas yourself?

They should sell a version of the Colorado with hydraulics and call it the Rio Grande.

Unless you plan on ripping through dirt roads and gravel like a rally racer, or are used to RWD (most AWD traction is directed to the rear) you aren't going to notice the difference.

Solstice is actually a nice car w/o any options.

Since when is an extended cab anything cool?

I can't name anything with more than 4 cylinders that costs less than 20K save the Mustang.

I'm mostly refering to snow traction. And I'm not saying a zero option solstice isn't a nice car, I've just never seen one.

I was going to say that you could get yourself a neat little regular cab ZQ8 Colorado for way under $20K. But I just priced one out on Chevy.com. The cheapest one is $21,450. And that's with the I4.

BTW, Colorado sales are down 41% YTD.

yeah, probably because they don't cost much less than a silverado.

This is exactly why I'd like to find something I'd like with AWD from GM.... but the pickens are slim.

Exactly. Smaller than a Silverado/Sierra slightly larger than an S-10 but smaller than all the other mid sized trucks. Lack luster torque, two less than desirable engine options, and a sticker price of almost that of a fullsize.

A lot of that could be overlooked if the MSRP came down on them.

I really wish the interior would get an upgrade and the engine choices expand to a small v8. I like the looks of the truck, but the engine options and the interior is why I decided to stick to my current vehicle and wait for a 5th Gen Camaro as my next GM purchase.

Re: GM needs cool sub 20K cars....

I paid $23,600 for my Colorado Z71 Crew cab 4x4 and it has the 1SF option package. (GM card helped)

Colorado just needs a new dash (H3 like) and a V8 option and sales will fly. It is a great truck, but when it came out in late 2003 it just barely was better than the competition. Now everyone else has put out a new truck leap frogging the Colorado. (yes the new for '04 Colorado is now the oldest midsize truck on the market). The new Ford Sport Trac has a Mustang GT V8 and 6 speed auto. GM needs to step up.

Cool $20K cars is definatly an area that GM needs to master. There is some good stuff out now, but what I'd really love to see is the Solstice coupe starting at $18,000

I paid $22,500 for my 05 silverado LS extended cab with a 295hp V8. No GM card. TONS more room and capability than the Colorados (I test drove several) and very close fuel economy.

Sort of like the Colorado. The Dakota is now too big and doesn't come in a regular cab, and the Ford Ranger has barely changed since in over a decade.

IMO, Colorado should be cheaper, it needs a better interior, and it NEEDS a V8.
At least the latter will be solved soon enough.

That's what a convertible top is for.
