GM to make THREE sports cars!!
To be announced: Pontiac Solstice, Buick Bengal, and Saturn Sky!
The whole story:

What's very interesting is that the Bengal will be a 2+2 (that's a 4 passenger car for those that don't know). Anyone object to Solstice being the basis for the 5th gen?

This should work.

Why get excited? If the Bengal is going to be a 4 passenger 2+2, and the Saturn will be a 4 passenger vehicle, then it stands to reason that Chevrolet could get a 4 passenger 2+2 as well.
Why not get too excited? GM seems to be dragging their feet on getting these cars out quickly (2006 at the earliest). Seems Mr. Lutz may be reaching his limits.

guionM got so excited he posted 3 times!
Seriously I heard about the 2+2 Buick a few hours ago from a buddy of mine, but I didn't think it worth posting here because for whatever reason I didn't see a Camaro connection. Basically the fact that BUICK of all divisions would get a Camaro-like car was kind of an insult while GM kept telling us there was no market for this type of car anymore.
Let's roll with this though. Would a Solstice-based Camaro be acceptable? I'm not too sure, because I have no idea how Solstice will be put together. As long as the car is a true 2+2 coupe that handles great and can take a large powerful V8 I'm all for it. However how could Solstice stretch into a 2+2 car with backseats that aren't almost an afterthought like they are now? Interesting possibilities though.

...the Bengal, a concept roadster with 2+2 seating -- with a small third door behind the driver's seat -- that was inspired by golfer and Buick spokesman Tiger Woods...

GM has decided to badge-engineer the Solstice, just like the J-car of the early '80s. Instead of cookie-cutter sedans, we'll be looking at cookie-cutter roadsters.

I'd prefer GM to take their time with these cars. It would suck if they rolled out to fanfare, only to be recalled and plagued with problems, which would hurt GM and a 5th gens cause more ("After our Bengal diaster, no one will want a new Camaro!")

They just announced it!! They have made concepts, but they obviously have to engineer it and test it before it goes out on the market.

IMO these cars should be done in less than 18 months because it's already been under development for the past year. The article even hints that the hold up is with the accountants, NOT with the guys actually working on the car.

If this was a ground up car, I'd be with you 100%. But these are parts bin cars. Beyond engineering the body structure itself, everything else is already done.
