GM kills the G8-ST? Guess who's working on that very type of vehicle?
I thought the elcamino, the ranchero, and the G8ST were all cool vehicles, but I would ever own one.
Furthermore, I don't know anyone, anywhere, ever, that would buy one. Maybe it's just the people I hang out with, but no one I know would go for one of those. THey either want a car or a truck.
An el camino type vehicle would be absolutley PERFECT for a guy like me. A new homeowner who needs an efficient car that can also bring home a load of junk from LOWE'S. Those vehicles just look soo goofy though, I'd rather have a nice car for commuting, and a stripper 4cyl light truck for doing dirty work.

My guess is Chrysler's entry in this market would be more like the Honda Ridgeline. They could use their minivan platform and build it at their St. Louis South assembly plant, since that plant is set up to build their minivans.
If GM were to develop a small pickup off of the Delta platform, I could see it turning into a goldmine, if done correctly.
Quite frankly the G8 ST was just too big and I don't think a truck based on Zeta is the answer either.

Couldn't disagree more, but I'll just leave it at that since it's all guesswork anyway.

Here's my thinking on this:
I'm definitely going to purchase a new Camaro (just haven't decided the "when" part). My Tahoe is putting on the miles and while its a great vehicle, its not very practical as a daily commuter. (Which is what it is used for.) As a utility vehicle its a beaut, and gets used as such every weekend. However it can be a pain trying to cram any lumber longer than 12-ft inside. (Yes, I do that occasionally.)
I need a commuter car that gets decent mileage and can fit two large adults comfortably. I also need a truck because, well even though I think its just about perfect, the Tahoe can't "do it all." However, I can't afford a Camaro, economy commuter and a new truck all at once. I'm already thinking of finding a cheap used truck (the wife won't sell the Tahoe), however if I could find an affordable new mini-truck that could double as a commuter during the week, I could kill two birds with one stone.
Hence my desire for a mini-truck based off Delta.
(The Camaro is a done deal, so I have no need for an El Camino-like G8 ST.)I have two caveats just in case someone at GM is reading this, it must have provisions for lumber racks, and it must be an extended cab with at least a jump seat behind the driver. (The dog has to sit somewhere.)
I'd buy a mini-truck based off the HHR in a heartbeat.

How well would this car sell?

Any updating required for this one to come to the US? Doesn't even need a nose.

The G8 ST was performance-oriented, not focused on utility. Sure, you could haul things...but did it need the 400 horse V8? That's why I, personally, think it woulda' flopped...but the GMC Denali. If they can make that thing happen -- they've got a winner, imo.
