GM introduces redesigned pickups early

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...s/15187486.htmMercury News[/URL]
The new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra initially were scheduled to go on sale in 2007. But GM, which is fighting to rebound from a $10.6 billion loss last year, moved the launch up by 13 weeks -- a change that should boost 2006 results. Light-duty models now are scheduled to go on sale in the fall, while heavy-duty models will hit showrooms in the winter.
Now I realize these are based on existing platforms and were already in the development channel for several years but still...

makes you go hmmmmm....

Good find. It also mentioned that 935,000 Silverado's and Sierra's were sold in a year! Not bad GM, not bad at all.

I just seriously hope that the next generation silverado will have a powertrain that can top Lightnings and SRT-10's for once. Hmmm, perhaps a Z06 motor.....

I have mixed feelings about what we are seeing so far.

Now that would be a real Silverado SS

Non-news.

Over a year ago, GM came right out and publically said they were postponing the US Zeta to focus on the GMT-900 trucks.

Later, Lutz issued a stop work order on the US Zeta program to rein in escalating costs of the program. But it was never a secret that GM's new large trucks were going vto be out earlier than planned.

At first gloss these will be great trucks and class-leading in many categories.
So far my gripes are the appearance (mostly the Chevy) and stupid option groupings/trim levels. Even so, Ford's sales lead in full size trucks is facing a serious threat in the 900s.

Appearance of the GMC looks like a Ford to me. So does the Chevy a bit but the big bar with the bowtie kinda makes it look more like a GM than a Ford.

I for one am going to have a tough time getting used to the new looks, but I said that back in 1988 too.

I still say the 73 to 87 GM truck body style was the best but that is just my age talking

Sorry............... I just think the Silverado is fugly. It is an oddly proportioned truck, and I don't think the front clip matches the side profile/wheelwell bulges.

Its kinda ugly on the new Dakota level......... but a bit more bland.

I have the same complaint on the Dakota, btw. Its pieces don't look like they go together either.

Re: GM introduces redesigned pickups early

You know what................. I like lots of vehicles besides Fords. I really like the current GMC trucks, and think the Denali is one of the most attractive trucks on the road. Also, my opinion of the upcoming Superduty is still out. I think the new GMC will be much better looking than the Silverado also. From perusing various websites, it would appear that I am not the only one who feels the Silverado looks odd.

Look at the truck objectively, and tell me that it is not at least a little odd looking. There is alot of bulging going on................ yet the front is all flat with oversize headlights.

However, I suppose you think they are all beautiful.............. including the longbed standard cab that they showed pics of.

A GM fan thinking the Silverado is beautiful. Gee, what a surprise.

Well I will make up for the Silverado lover because I think it looks odd and disjointed. And I am a huge GM fan. I think the new Sierra looks great but I do not like the Silverado, though I am hoping that seeing it in person will change my opinion. I do think that the large fender flares will look good on a lowered SS model but that is just IMO.
