GM High Performance Division is no more

not sure if this is a repost but
http://www.leftlanenews.com/
"General Motors has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations unit, which was responsible for creating such vehicles as the Cadillac CTS-V, Corvette ZR1, and Pontiac G8 GXP. GM’s high-performance vehicles will not be discontinued, but future replacements to these cars might never materialize. In other words, when GM’s existing high-performance models reach the end of planned production, they could be gone for good.

All high-performance vehicles currently under development have been shelved. It is not clear if this includes cars like the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, which is probably very close to being completed.

“All high-performance projects are on indefinite hold,” spokesman Vince Muniga told Automotive News. “The engineers are moving into different areas of the organization, and they will work on Cadillacs, Buicks, Chevrolets and Pontiacs.”

Muniga added there are no longer any plans for performance-oriented variants of any upcoming cars."

Cut Buick and Hummer. I mean, seriously. GM really needs like 3 brands - Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Saturn.

GM is struggling to stay afloat. Of course they're gonna ax projects that cost them more than they make.

I thought they were dropping Pontiac...

Might as well pull all funding into racing teams while they are at it. No point in racing your cars in professional events if you don't plan on taking that knowledge and selling it to people.

Perhaps they should stop making such crappy cars and start building some hip new stuff that people actually want. And stop making the interiors out of melted plastic plates :P

As long as they keep their talented people and assign them to other projects, nobody should have a problem with it.

In my opinion it was a waste of money to begin with. GM aknowledged that they wouldn't make money on the CTS-V and I'm sure they won't make money on the G8 GXPs.

These cars were for bragging rights AND because of the lack of money OR sheer stupidity, GM never put the marketing dollars needed to get the word out of just how good these cars are.

I doesn't mean that GM is abandoning high performance models, it just means that they'll stop wasting their resources on a really small niche sector and spend money on the more important projects.

I still think that the camaro SS being 400+ HP is quite impressive to begin with and besides, we can upgrade the damn thing ourselves.

Saturn is just different Chevy products, yet with worst sales than Pontiac. Keeping Saturn over Pontiac/GMC makes no sense.
