Suprising to see that many Avalanches sold. 8.1L + truck weight + soaring gas prices = just plain stupid. The 5.3 is probably a guzzler too.

It's pretty amazing that the oldest of the domestic full sizes (Chevy and GMC) are the only domestics to actually have increses in sales percentage, with Ford and Dodge down...

The 8.1L (2500) is the minority of Avalanche sales. By far, I'd venture.

Even without the Avalanche, though, the SilverSierra twins are ahead of the FSeries.

Yeah.

They're still strong sellers despite their age.

Yeah, and the new F-series is the ugliest truck to come out of Detroit in the last 20 years.
(The previous version was much better looking.)

Yes but even $2,000 in rebates leaves profit on these vehicles. Besides, it's good to know that people still want trucks.
I love the logic in most truck sales analysis these days. Specifically: "GM trucks are old. Sales of trucks are down. Therefore, GM trucks will not sell even if they are completely new because the decline in old GM truck sales and the decline in the overall market are completely unrelated." Give me a break. The new trucks will sell, because if you can afford to pay $40-$50,000 for a vehicle, than you're most likely going to be able to afford gas for it as well.

I dunno what the national ford rebates are , but around here it has been pretty common place with the local Ford dealers to have up to 7500 off the new F-150 and up to $10K off sticker of a new Expedition . Coupled with amazingly low lease rates . So its not like the Fords arent heavily discounted too . The new F is a sweet truck , Im a little shocked the slant eye Silvarado is doing so well . I dunno , maybe more people than I thought have the mentality that I do . I like the F-150 ALOT more than the Silvarado as far as appearences are concerned , but "if" I were buying a new truck , I'd still get a Cheby because of the powertrain and live the insanely outdated interior , which really isnt that bad . I mean.. its a truck

Only because it looked just like a Dodge.

You know what though? Real life gas milage in town, where I do about 90% of my driving.. my 99 Z28 gets about the same gas milage as my 04 Avalanche (5.3).. about 14 mpg..

The Z28 gets 1-3 mpg more sometimes, but it also uses premium instead of regular gas. Sure, I have alot more fun accel and turning the Z28(and alot faster!).. but the Av is 1000x quieter and comfortable.. Plus I can bring people and stuff around comfortably too.. Remember, this is pure town/city driving. No highway(or very little, just to get from 1 exit to another to cut across town)

Yes, constant sustained highspeed highway driving, the Z28 excells in mpg.. but unless its a relatively short 1 or 2 hour trip each way to the shore and back or something in great weather, I much rather take the Av for comfort, especially in bad weather.

Even so Ford can rightfully claim they have the best selling truck for (I don't even remember how many years straight) since neither of the twins by themselves will have outsold the F Series.

True, and that's one way for automakers to use price to compensate for products late in their lifecycles.

When the GM twins first debuted in 1999 they were selling for about $1000 more than equivalent Fords, and were still holding the sales lead.

BTW I happen to think the new Ford is much better looking than then the new Silverado. I'd probably buy GMC if I was in the market for a truck right now.
