gm fuel economy commercial

Just saw a chevy commercial that did nothing but review the great fuel economy of cars like the malibu, impala, and aveo. It also mentioned that they were the first to create a hybrid truck.

I just wanted to give kudos to gm for highlighting this. Great move.

Yes, a barrage of ads like this are what it's gonna take, to turn things around. I hope they keep it up.

I have seen numerous GM commercials like this. 9 Cars with 30mpg or better, first car to do this, that. Number one in this, best selling passenger car brand... I love them. I hope they keep raping the public with these ads. Force feed it to them, they need to know.

It's good, but it's still kind of sad in a way. As big as they are they still don't have anything that can get over 35 MPG. An aveo only gets 34 and the substantially larger regular civic is rated at 38 HWY, with the hybrid versions going up from there. If you are really focused on fuel economy and don't just want to be reassured that the malibu's economy "isn't that bad" they don't have an anwser for you right now.

...And then the one car that has a huge fuel economy advantage over it's competitors never gets mentioned. I'm talking about Corvette..

Re: gm fuel economy commercial

It's an obvious knock-off of the Toyota commercial that has been airing for a few months now, but an effective one for sure since people for some reason seem to regard imports as being more fuel efficient by default.

I think it'd be even funnier if they showed something like the Vette (6-speed) and a 6-cyl Camry or whatnot and said "now which of these do you think gets better gas milage?" That'd bring quite a stir to the public fuel economy assumptions.

Regardless... I think all of these commercials are dumb. Quoting your # of vehicles over 30mpg highway is a weird stat. I mean for example this is 10 out of how many vehicles? What is their actual average mpg? How about your other vehicles? How many vehicles do you have under 15 mpg city? Etc, etc... I guess I'm just saying that's kind of a weird stat to pull out of one's ***.

I can see your point, but it looks good when you can say "look at all these vehicles that get over 30mpg". They have quite good fuel economy and need to advertise it.

I agree with your Corvette commercial idea though.

I've had this apiphony before and if something like that was done just perfectly, the entire image of GM might be turned around... but it would have to be done just right... "Vehicles with reliablity, fuel ecconomy, style, and Performance... What else could you ask from your Automotive company: GM, Our Value Promise to You"

Aveo needs a new engine. Is the 2007 getting an Ecotec finally? THe Euro 1.4L is what that car needs.

The Cobalt should also be offered with the 140HP 1.8L that is sold in Europe. It would be nice to see a Cobalt with say 29/37 mpg

They need some turbo diesels in the small and midsize cars.

Re: gm fuel economy commercial

Off the showroom floor and the sub 300 miles I have on my Cobalt, its getting exactly what the sticker says for economy. 25 city and I'll take their word for the 35 highway. As soon as the motor is done breaking in, I'm expecting 25-27 city and 35-38 highway with ease. I do want to add how much I love the hell out of the car. Fit and finish is AWESOME. Interior plastics look and feel great as well as the cloth material on the door panels. My only complaint is the lack of get-up-and-go from the 2.2L but what do you expect when you're used to driving a car with twice the cylinders and twice the power? Plus I get a kick out of how easily the car spins the tires and the wheelspin from a good 1-2 shift. Chevy's new cars certainly kick ***, especially the Cobalt. If it does me well, I'll step up to an SS once my lease is up to continue daily driving duty.
