Is GM EVER going to make a decent cup holder???
Is GM EVER going to make a decent cup holder???

This is about the only think I can find about GM that pisses me off. THe swing out cup holder in the Camaro is handy, but my coffee cup tips over on hard turns (I'm working on a "holder mod' design as we speak). It almost spilled the other day when I had to slam on the brakes.
THe 4th gen is the ONLY f-body (to my knowledge) that had a cup holder. My 85 didn't have one and it sucked having HOT D&D coffee spilling on my 'boys' while driving.
Even the ones int eh Trucks are not good by me.. THat darn rubber boot keeps coming loose and sticking to my coffee cup.
Anyway..

Try the one on the passenger side of the Solstice. Very much like yours in the Camaro...however it is RIGHT next to the passengers leg and intrudes on much needed leg room.
The two directly behind the driver that pop out? Pffffffft
Grant it, the Solstice is a vehicle that is a roadster for the driving enthusiast. I'm not bitching about it...I'm just sayin'

I remember back in 1993 in the new Camaro commercial, "and a cup holder big enough to hold your slurpy". My 1995 Camaro cup holder totally sucks.
How frigging hard can it be to engineer a decent cup holder. It was probably done by the same moron who did the power window wiring and placed the distributor under the water pump.

... I just saw your responses to the Window motor thread in the general room...
I think I actually remember that commercial fort the 'new' Camaro. The two cup holders in the back of my LS1 are a nice idea for the rear passengers (if you can fit them), but my elbow hits the cups..

Since my foray into German vehicles with this Audi A4 and now considering a 335i, I've come to realize that nothing is worse than german vehicles when it comes to a lack of worthwhile cup holders.
In fact as I understand it - they're only a dealer installed option on the 335i sold in most other areas of the world - it's just here in the US that apparently us fat slovenly Americans demand to divert our attention to more than just 'driving'. At least that's pretty much how it was explained to me by some of the BMW fan boys on another message board.
Is it so much for me to ask to have a place to keep my to go cup of iced tea from spilling over as I drive back to work from my lunch break, or some coffee in the morning, or some water on my way home? That doesn't make me a fat bastard or a distracted driver. It means I'm multitasking... something that a daily commute averaging 20mph makes far more possible than rocketing down the autobahn.
Anyhow... enough of my rant. Let's just say I think the American cars and Japanese cars have cup holders down to a T for the most part relative to german vehicles.

I have a coffe mug that seems to be the exact one the center holder was designed for. Right down to matching the indentation for the handle. Cup stays stable.
I've used it for everything from coffee to holding discarded sunflower seeds. Can't count on simply spitting them out the window them since the genuine Camaro Piece-o-crap Power Window Motors© tend to ensure the windows either don't roll down, or if it does roll down, rolls back up only a couple of millimeters at a time before taking a 15 minute break before being able to move another couple of millimeters..... and God forbid if you try and call it back to work before the break's over.. (you'll need to wait twice as long).
The cups are available pretty much everywhere.

Am I the only one who could care less about the cupholders in a car? Hell, I think the position of the auto mirror adjuster button is more important than the freakin cupholders. Especially on a car like a Camaro.
