Maybe they just needed help developing a full-hybrid application for after 2007 when the Malibu and a few other cars get mild hybrid options.

I seriously doubt it. Although I'm going to love to watch the competition here and I'm pulling for GM. Toyota simply has too much at its disposal and its kind of one of their favorite bragging rights here. They're not going to give up on it. Right now Toyota has a very powerful Synergy Drive System which they are improving on in every application.

I dont have to much time to draw out my thoughts more, I have to ge back to work in a few mintues
