GM cashing in on new Malibu
GM cashing in on new Malibu
Make a good car and people will buy it. It is as simple as that. It is funny how long it has taken GM to learn that cutting corners doesn't work.
Quickly refreshing models helps too. I think GM will quickly notice this with the success of the new after 5 years CTS, and new after 4 years Malibu, while the lets never change it Colorado sales have dropped like a rock and G6 sales and average price will follow the same path since no update is due until 2011+.

The more the economy gets worse and fuel prices get higher the more important it is that GM has a solid competing high quality mid-size family 4-door and compact 4-door as well.
Malibu? Check.
Cobalt? Not so much.
Good job on the Malibu GM... now get to work on the Cobalt. It has much worse fuel economy than its primary competitors, worse build quality, worse resale, etc... about the only thing going for it is the SS version which is nice, but that's not what's going to rake in the cash from the majority of consumers.

Not only does the Cobalt need more done for it but the Aveo I think as well.
If gas keep going it would be awesome to get a diesel Aveo and/or Cobalt or even a hybrid version.
Would definitely help GM's 'Gas friendly to gas free' slogan.
Cobalt is all new in 10 as an 11 , there shouldnt be a worry at all about it . The Cobalt was still mostly under old school GM . I would think the new one would be more of departure from old than the Malibu . They fully understand how to build a car now that isnt based around previous gen competitors models .
Great to see the Malibu doing so well . What a nice slap in the face to the beancounters that forever degraded GM cars down to tupperware and just getting by mechanicals .

right, the expectation is that now since GM has leveraged internation resources in buliding the Cobalt, it should be something completely unexpected and better even than the transition of the last the current Malibu........something along the lines of the Camaro, Volt, NG Lacrosse, concept Riviera is what GM should be looking to in terms of execution to meet expectations.
one more thing about this article and the new Malibu. this is an experiment in relaunching a familiar name with some baggage but with plenty of consumer awareness and getting the good deal out of it. with the next gen Malibu GM will go even further in distancing itself from 'left behind' design of the former Malibu and all the bad reputation associated with it. GM will get to go further in design distingushing a rich car and relaunching GM as a company that sells cars.
You guys hiring?
~I kid, I kid.
~~Anyway, the Cobalt, as the base model is just as bad as the J-bodies, except with half of the problems those cars actually had. Now it's just not up to spec with what consumers are used to from their "imports."
The Aveo has just been redesigned, I saw an ad saying "malibu inspired". How does that do you for looks. X2 to the power of infinity on having an econo/hybrid/diesel/STFU* edition Aveo(Cobalt too!).
The only thing it really needs is better efficiency. http://www.chevrolet.com/pop/aveo/2008/engine_en.jsp That is the page with more detail form Chevy's site. 24city, serious??? Yeah, it's that bad. have full confidence that Chevy will do something to step it up in the next 5 years. After that, I'm jumping ship to Toyota on small economical engines.(
