The GM Card = DONE!!

Got a notice in the mail today saying the GM Card program is no more. I've got until Dec 31, 2012 to spend my money on a GM Vehicle. Looks like the bank I had my card through is replacing it with a lame "Drivers Reward" program that we can redeem toward any make or model of vehicle, but its not the same level of earnings toward a vehicle that the GM card was........

The GM Card site says I've got until 2017 to spend the money......not sure which one is accurate. Too bad - this was a good program and was one of the (good) reasons I kept buying GM products.......I hope they replace the program with some other incentive.........

Re: The GM Card = DONE!!

I have a GM Visa (issued by TD Bank) and a Citibank Drivers Edge Platinum card. The Drivers Edge earns only 2% but ... it has all the benefits of a platinum card, a higher annual earning limit and the earnings can be redeemed on any brand, buy or lease, new or used. I've stacked those earnings with the GM Card a number of times.

I haven't received a cancellation notice for the GM Card.

I've had my GM Card since 1992 when they first came out... no notice from them of any ending of the program.

The new card is pathetic.

Same here. I got the old card that gives me 5% towards a new vehicle. I have had mine since 1999.

That Citi card has a $59 annual fee ... I'm rather averse to paying credit card fees (I don't spend enough to make up for it).

We really have a miserable selection of cards to choose from up here. TD's replacement for the GM card sure sucks, so I guess I better go looking.

I confirmed that Canadians can still redeem GM Card money until December,2017. Just in time to replace my (still new) 2009 G8........

That bites. Mine is free ... but I have had it since early 2000 so I'm probably grandfathered in.

Re: The GM Card = DONE!!

I haven't heard anything about that but I'm in the US and my card is from HSBC.

I'd be pretty upset if I got notice that my card was going to be canceled. Reason being I used the card on my Aura about 20 months ago. At that point I debated getting some other card like a cash card or frequent flier card but decided all those cards usually amounted to something more like a 1 or 2% rebate and 5% from GM was a better deal as long as I was willing to continue giving GM my business.

Even if the 'can be used until 2017' thing is correct, it wouldn't help because currently I just don't have a sizable enough rebate built up for me to be likely to buy another GM car. I don't know how much I have but let's say I have $750. With only $750 I probably won't even buy GM, and I wouldn't have an opportunity to earn a bigger rebate. So I'd have earned a useless rebate when I could have instead gotten $150-$300 in cash or frequent flier miles or whatever... something I could use.

Re: The GM Card = DONE!!

I had a rather large fit when I got wind from my bank that the timeframe they had was only until 2012. I've got 3K in GM Card Money right now and have redeemed almost 8000 over the years I've had the card....needless to say I've used the card alot and have also used the program alot........

I will use the remaining 3K on a new GM Vehicle (s) before 2017, but not likely before 2012.......I'm calmer now.......
